The longest high school state championship streak not only in swimming, but in any sport,, can be extended this weekend at the Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls Swimming & Diving Championships.
Carmel High School will attempt to win its 40th consecutive championship, and even though the Greyhounds might not have as much individual star power as in years past, they will be tough to beat given theiri trademark depth.
Carmel finished 1st last year with 448 points, more than double the total of runner-up Fort Wayne Carroll (212.50).
Carmel might have the best senior at the meet in Tennessee commit Molly Sweeney, who is seeded 2nd in the 100 breast (1:00.63) and 3rd in the 100 fly (53.92).
Sweeney won both events at the Carmel Sectionals last weekend and will look to regain the top spot on the podium in both. She was the runner-up in both events last year after winning both two years ago as a sophomore.
Sweeney is also the anchor for Carmel’s 200 free relay team, which is seeded 5th, and is the breaststroker on Carmel’s 200 medley relay team that is seeded 3rd.
Valparaiso is seeded 1st in the 200 medley relay, Carroll is the top seed in the 200 free relay, and Fishers is the top seed in the 400 free relay.
Another individual to watch for Carmel is sophomore Ellie Clarke, who is seeded 1st in the 100 back (52.65) and 2nd in the 200 IM (1:59.08). She won the 100 back and was the runner-up in the 500 free last season as a freshman.
Other swimmers seeded in the top-five in their respective events for Carmel are freshman Haley Morris (5th in both the 200 free and 500 free), sophomore Leah Debosch (5th in both the 200 IM and 100 back) and senior Sabrina Ledwith in the 500 free (4th).
Carroll hopes to be in the mix behind junior Jordyn Glassley, a Georgia commit who is the top seed in both the 200 IM (1:57.72) and 100 fly (52.99).
Glassley is the defending champion in the 200 IM and was 4th last year in the 100 fly.
In addition to Glassley, Carroll juniors Kate Fetters and Maris Williams (23.01) are seeded 1st and 2nd, respectively, in both the 50 free and 100 free.
An Indiana commit, Fetters was 2nd in the 50 free and 100 back at last year’s state meet.
Fishers junior Emily Wolf, an N.C. State commit, is seeded 1st in both the 200 free (1:46.51) and 500 free (4:44.75). She won the 500 last year and was also the runner-up in the 100 fly.
In the 100 breast, Florida commit and Valparaiso senior Maddie Moreth is the top seed (59.91) as she seeks to defend her title in that event.

Love the discussion!
I am super excited about this weekend. After scoring it out, I had Carmel up about 20 points before/without diving.
Lots of swimming left, and with these other very solid teams being in the mix (Carroll, Zionsville, Fishers, even Chesterton “stealing points”) it leaves the door open for some parody.
Can’t wait!
Would be good for the sport in Indiana if this streak ended soon
Go see what Carmel is doing on a daily basis and tell me what they’re doing isn’t good for the sport. I’ve been there and put my eyes on it observing dryland through the water portion. Their coaching staff is organized, professional, and motivated. I say all of that out of respect.
Carmel gets 40! Won’t get 41 without some move-ins/transfers…
They will reload.
Let’s do a pick em for the winners (1,2,3) for each event?
200 Medley Relay – HSE, Carmel, Fishers
200 IM Jordyn Glassley, Ellie Clarke, Haley Hunter

Yes
I’m interested to see what Fishers does with the medley relay. Don’t think they fully showed their cards. They move up in the medley relay and hypothetically everything else stays the same, they win the meet.
Unlikely, they win the medley relay. Perhaps the free relays depending on who they put in.
I think at the very least their medley will move up into top 8. And I am willing to bet that both their free relays will win too. They are very strong this year, they already beat Carmel once (head to head just the swimming though.)
I’d take both FAST and FORT over CSC at the club level but each of those programs suffer at the HS level due to multiple school systems that their swimmers go to. Carmel benefits in HS because all of their swimmers so to their school corporation.
Why?
Philosophy of training age groupers. Carmel doesn’t have to rely as much on developing age groupers since they get so much talent moving in and wanting to work in the HS program to get ready for college.
Both FORT and FAST have great records in developing the youth that they have in their age groupers program. The downside for FORT is that their age groupers talent often gets divided amongst their different high schools.
FAST has a lot of club “transfers” at lower levels due to their reputation to accommodate swimmers and willingness to work around schedules. But that means that a lot of their club kids attend other high schools and choose to compete there or sit… Read more »

What, specifically, can you point to that the other programs do that is different or better? How is their philosophy of training age groupers different? Are you saying they don’t work to be good?
oh you again..

Carroll and Fishers are both closer to Carmel than any team has been in years, but Carmel is still in solid position to win.
Go Fishers!
Fishers needs to win two relays. It’s going to be close this year. There are enough swimmers outside of Carmel throughout the state Carmel to disrupt the finals.
Lest we forget Fishers beat Carmel during the regular season in girls swimming when they met.
Can someone fact check this? Carmel’s duel meet streak is unprecedented. You are telling me Fishers beat them and we didn’t hear boo??!!
In Meet Mobile: Jan 10
FHS vs Carmel
@FHS Nat
Women score: 94 – 92
Winner: Carmel
**CHS outscored FHS 12-4 in diving.
That’s not true. Carmel won
Fishers did not beat carmel during the regular season. Carmel won the meet. It was close, but Carmel won.
