Huskers Win 15 Events as Nebraska Rolls Through Rutgers 230-123

Lincoln, Neb. – To cap a successful regular season, the Nebraska swimming and diving team crushed Rutgers in a 230-123 battle. The Big Red won 15 of the 19 events over the weekend, helping propel the team to a dominant victory.

The 400 medley relay team of Virginia Consiglio, Amelia Riggott, Jazmyn Lunn, and Giulia Marchi took the first Husker victory of the day with a time of 3:41.03. A young team of Sophie Kissuk, Katy Zboinski, Aurora Zanin, and Natalie Dunaway worked their way to a third-place finish with 3:47.66.

Sweeping the podium for the mile race, NU’s Gena Jorgenson finished in first place with a time of 16:04.93. Riley Miklos followed with a time of 16:48.79, and Alaira Hadford came in at third (16:50.65).

The Big Red continued its dominance in the 50 free with Beatrix Tanko hitting the pad at 22.56. True freshman Natalie Dunaway took third in the competition, notching a time of 23.39.

After the break, the 100 backstroke allowed Virginia Consiglio to work her way to the fourth-fastest swim in the event in NU history. The sophomore notched a 54.09 last season to take the sixth-place spot on the list, but moved up with a time of 53.54 against the Scarlet Knights.

In a successful stand in the 100 breast, Jenna Gogel added her best finish of the season in second place. The sophomore from Bentonville, Ark., touched the wall at 1:04.10.

Tanko took her second victory of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 52.39. Lunn ended in fourth (55.34) to close out the fly efforts of the meet.

Senior freestyler, Marchi, took first in the 200 free, closing the competition in 1:47.65. Jenna Brown added her first second-place finish of the season behind the Italian swimmer with a time of 1:51.71.

Sweeping another event, Gena Jorgenson won the event in 4:17.75 and was followed by Aurora Zanin (4:21.39) as well as Marissa Laurin in third (4:22.87). Hadford (fifth, 4:33.39) and Gogel (sixth, 4:34.55) also competed in the event.

To complete the weekend of competition, a team of Marchi, Miklos, Jorgenson, and Tanko came in first place for the 400 free relay (3:20.72).

Abby Baxter swept the one-meter dive with a score of 306.98, and Kelsey Clairmont finished in fifth place with her score of 269.70.

The Cornhuskers will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Big Ten Championships, a four-day meet in Minneapolis, Minn., running from Feb. 18–21.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Rutgers swimming and diving closed out a two-day meet against Big Ten foe Nebraska on Saturday morning.

In Saturday competition, Rutgers was highlighted by Sofia Bartoloni in the 100 breaststroke. She was RU’s lone event winner of the day, touching the wall in 1:02.87.

Rutgers also had five second place finishes and four third place spots, giving them 10 podium slots on Saturday.

The Scarlet Knights continued competition that had started on Friday. During Friday’s events, Bartoloni (200 Breast) and Ana Hazlehurst (200 IM) had first place swims, in addition to event winner Katerina Hoffman on 1M diving. Overall, Nebraska claimed the dual meet victory with a 230-123 margin.

Rutgers’ next competition comes next weekend, just for the diving side. Rutgers will host a Platform Invitational on Saturday as a tune-up as the Big Ten Championship approaches next month.
