NJIT Tops Lafayette 168-123 As Leopards Set Pair of Records

EASTON, Pa. – The NJIT swimming and diving team won its final regular-season meet against Lafayette, 168-123, on Saturday at the Weinstein Natatorium.

Andrew Cellar, Borys Endle, Mohamed Walid, and Vincent Coppola won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:23.93.

Yonatan Ahdut won the 1,000 free with a time of 9:21.43. Endle also claimed the victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.86.

Zachary Goad took first place in the 100 back with a time of 50.79. Ian Dinesh won the 100 breast in 59.53.

Walid swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 fly (49.83) and 200 fly (1:51.62).

Cellar claimed the victory in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.14.

The Highlanders will travel to VMI for the America East Championships on Feb. 18-21.

EASTON, Pa. – The men’s swimming and diving team hosted NJIT on Saturday afternoon for the third and final of a three-meet homestand this week, dropping a 168-123 decision.

Freshman Justin Tucker broke the Lafayette pool record in the 500-yard freestyle for the second time this week, surpassing his record from Thursday with a time of 4:32.18. Tucker captured the victory in the 500 free and earned second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.58.

Junior Alexander Reihl garnered first place in the 50 free with a final time of 20.90. Reihl also swam an exhibition 100-yard IM, breaking both the pool and school records with a time of 50.50.

Freshman Gregory Yukhvid enjoyed the victory in the 100 free, finishing in 46.82, a season-best performance. Junior Alexander Zoldan claimed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.34. Freshman Augustus Sefcik touched second in the 50 free finishing in a time of 21.22.

Senior Tommy Weber collected third in the 100-yard backstroke (53.78) while freshmen Max Mahler and Leo Frein each secured third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.65) and 100 fly (53.14), respectively. Freshman Trevor Olson snagged third in the 100 and 1000 free, finishing with times of 47.62 and 9:45.94.

The team of Yukhvid, sophomore Charles Derivaux, freshman Charlie Moon and Sefcik took home the victory in the 200 free relay, working together for a final time of 1:29.69.

Junior diver Landon Orth earned the win in the 3-meter dive with a 292.20 score. Orth also placed third in the 1-meter, scoring 276.83. Senior Peter Curtis achieved first and second in the 1- and 3-meter (282.38. 268.35) and junior Trey Telleen finished second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter (278.25, 252.83).

“What a fun week. Three meets in a week is a lot of competing, but we handled it really well. The energy and commitment to details stayed consistent all week, even as we became more tired,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “As much as this was a week of competing, it was a lot of great work and everyone is pretty ready to start resting and fine tuning as we approach the end of the season.”

The Maroon and White will head to Navy for the Navy Invite on Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.
