In a contest between a pair of SEC counterparts, the Kentucky Wildcats and Missouri Tigers split their meeting with the Tiger women emerging victorious 180-120, while the Wildcat men battled to top Missouri 168.5-131.5.
Women’s Recap:
Missouri’s women surged to 11 wins on the day, to the Wildcats’ five.
Opening up the meet, the Tigers stormed to an early relay victory in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Annabelle Wentzel (25.43), Zara Zallen (27.02), Kylee Sullivan (23.21), and Francesca Smith (22.09) combined in 1:37.75 to open the meet with a win for Missouri.
The Tigers were unstoppable in the sprint freestyle races. Zallen, the junior, earned wins in both the 100 free (48.90) and 200 free (1:47.03), while Smith, a junior, led Missouri’s 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free, clocking 22.79, the only swimmer in the event under 23 seconds.
The butterfly events also showed to be dominated by Missouri; senior Paige Striley led another 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 fly, blasting a winning time of 53.92. Sullivan was 2nd in 54.06, and Wentzel rounded out the Tigers’ podium in 55.10.
Sophomore Maeve DeYoung and Sullivan led the way in the 200 fly for the Tigers, finishing as the top two performers in the event; DeYoung turned in the top time in 1:59.75, while Sullivan finished just behind in 2:00.30.
Senior Gabriela San Juan Carmona topped all performers in the 3-meter diving with a winning performance of 343.65 for Missouri.
Senior Karolina Bank picked up a pair of breaststroke wins for Missouri. In the 100 breaststroke, Bank overwhelmed the field, touching nearly a second and a half of the field in 1:00.14. She later picked up the 200 breast victory in 2:11.86.
The Tigers closed out the meet the same way that they started, with a relay win; Zallen (23.13), Smith (22.30), Bank (22.64), and Katie Kuehn (23.11) notched the 200 free relay victory in 1:31.18, nearly a full second faster than Kentucky (1:32.04).
Kentucky’s success was highlighted in the distance events. The Wildcat women finished 1-2 in the 1000 free as sophomore Katy Jost (9:56.07) and junior Paige Housman (9:57.58) led the way to earn valuable points for Kentucky.
Jost later added the 500 free to her win total, completing the distance free sweep in 4:49.63.
Kentucky also added a win in the 200 back by way of senior Fernanda De Goeij, who led the race from start to finish, touching over two seconds ahead of the field in 1:55.34.
Kentucky sophomore Hayden Penny was unfazed in the 400 IM, cruising to the win by more than five seconds in 4:12.89.
Wildcat sophomore Avery Giese led the way on the 1-meter board, finishing with a winning score of 278.48.
Men’s Recap:
Kentucky’s relays mirrored the Missouri women, bookending their day with wins in both the 200 medley (1:24.88) and the 200 free (1:17.79) relays.
Freshman Falemana Tuufi swept the sprint free events for Kentucky. In the 50 free, Tuufi powered to the win in 19.50; his teammate, AJ Terry, finished 2nd for the Wildcats in 20.20. The 100 free saw Tuufi narrowly out-touch Luke Nebrich of Missouri by eight hundredths of a second in 43.11 to secure the win.
Wildcat junior Carson Hick took the 1000 free in 8:52.05 with a ten-second cushion between him and his freshman teammate Dziugas Miskinis, who finished 2nd in 9:02.59.
Miskinis picked up a win of his own in the 500 free, clocking 4:25.54, earning Kentucky the sweep across both women’s and men’s distance freestyle events on the day.
Sophomore Adomas Gatulis surged to the 100 breast win for Kentucky in 52.89. Gatulis was the only swimmer in the event under 54 seconds.
Kentucky junior Devin Naoroz mirrored De Goeij’s success in the 200 back, comfortably winning the event in 1:44.39; Missouri’s Jan Zubik finished 2nd in 1:44.94. No one else at the event finished faster than 1:47.
Senior Levi Sandidge also earned a massive win for Kentucky in the 400 IM, leading the 16-length race from start to finish, ultimately touching more than ten seconds ahead of the field in 3:42.55.
Zubik, the Missouri senior who finished 2nd in the 200 back, earned two wins for the Tigers, sweeping the butterfly events. Zubik led a 1-2 finish for Missouri in the 100 fly, touching just ahead of sophomore teammate Matthew Judkins (47.30) to win in 47.04. In the 200 fly, it was a runaway win for Zubik, clocking 1:43.11. Judkins once again finished 2nd in 1:44.65.
Missouri freshman Oliver Millán de Miguel secured the tight win in the 200 free, touching just over half a second ahead of Kentucky’s Logan Ingerick (1:37.76) in 1:37.15. The top four finishers in the event all finished within a second of each other.
Juniors Tanner Braunton and Tommaso Zannella each picked up wins on the boards for the Tigers; Braunton led the way on the 1-meter in 348.38. Zannella took care of business on 3-meter, locking up the highest point total in 353.03.

WOW UK men are on a great roll!
At this pace the team could finish in the top 10 (out of 11) at SEC and eek into the top 22 at NCAAs.
Yeah we’ll see how well this comment ages. They’re looking really good and continue to beat SEC teams back to back. I can tell you they ain’t getting 10th.
