Notre Dame’s eight event wins helped catapult them over in-conference opponents Miami on the Hurricanes’ senior day in Coral Gables, 162.5-137.5.

Sophomore Carli Cronk opened up scoring for the Notre Dame women, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:47.99, well off her best time of the season of 1:46.06 from October. Cronk later closed out the individual scoring for the Fighting Irish with her victory in the 200 IM, clocking 2:02.37 for a season-best time.

Notre Dame swept the breaststroke events; graduate student Gigi Baldacci took the 100 breast in 1:05.58, while junior Julieta Tracy later won the 200 breast in 2:16.64, just slower than her season best of 2:14.75, marking the first wins for each of them this season.

The fighting Irish found similar success in the sprint freestyles, with sophomore Hollie Widdows claiming the 50 free in 23.18. Widdows set her lifetime best earlier this season at the Miami Invite in 22.45. Notre Dame also picked up the 100 free win by way of freshman Becky Rentz in 50.60, just off of her best time of the season from late November in 50.28.

Junior Lainey Mullins added the 500 free to the Notre Dame win total, touching in 4:51.57, just over seven seconds off of her fastest time of the season in 4:44.78.

Widdows (50.21), Kate Simon (50.23), Rentz (49.89), and Emily Hamill (49.84) combined in a winning effort of 3:20.17 to seal the deal on the dual meet victory in the 400 free relay.

Miami’s quartet of Leah Treglia (25.45), Isabelle Videment (28.82), Ashlyn Massey (23.97), and Zofia Sobczak (23.50) picked up an early victory in the 200 medley relay, stopping the clock in 1:41.74.

Freshman Sophia Lenze took the 1000 free in 10:05.28 for the Hurricanes, over five seconds ahead of the field. Margo O’Meara earned a pair of diving wins on the day, scoring 162.25 on 1-meter and 169.50 on 3-meter.

Massey picked up a sweep of her own for Miami, taking wins in both the 100 fly (53.33) and 200 fly (1:57.93). The Hurricanes also earned a pair of backstroke wins; Treglia nabbed the 100 back by just under half a second in 54.61, while senior Sarah Sensenbrenner earned a victory of her own in the 200 back in 1:58.18, nearly a second faster than anyone in the event.

Notre Dame will head to Lexington to take on Kentucky and Purdue in a tri-meet on January 9th, while the Hurricanes will compete in a tri-meet of their own against Harvard and Florida International on January 10.
