Over/Unders: 2026 NCAA Women’s Division I Championships Post-Invite Power Rankings Edition

Our post invite Power Rankings for the 2025-2026 were released yesterday morning on the women’s side. Virginia led the way and is searching for its 6th straight title. We’ve decided to let the public have a little say in what they think will happen.

In our new series called “over/unders” we will use the comment section to allow the public to have a voice. If you think the team will do better than or equal to our pick you will use the + (upvote), if you think the team will do worse than our pick, you will use the – (downvote).

  • Example: If you think the Indiana women will finish 5th or higher, hit the + to upvote, if you think they will finish 8th or lower hit the – to downvote.

Over/under is a typical wager used in sports-books. With this, no money will be involved. Simply put, we do the rankings, you have fun and upvote or downvote what we picked, have some friendly debate in the comments.

Gorbenko could add 30-40 individual points, plus some additional boost on relays. Top 5 is possible

could be interesting to see the breakdown of points scored by international swimmers at ncaas — i think itll be the highest in a while on the womens side.

just eyeballing it every single top 10 team will have an international swimmer who can score double digit points (20/30+) other than stanford

actually going further down the list every program up to lsu has an elite international swimmer (could even include lsu in that definition if you group their 2 butterflyers together who could score 20+ collectively).

In regard to the University of Virginia, it’s conceivable that Aimee Canny (200 FR, 200 BR, 200 IM) and Sara Curtis (100 BK, 50 FR, 100 FR) each qualify in the Championship Final of three events at the 2026 NCAA DI Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Then again, the two aforementioned female swimmers may need to since Katie Grimes can’t even sniff a personal best time (200 FR, 500 FR, 1650 FR, 200 BK, 200 FL, 400 IM) during the 2025-2026 NCAA Season.

I did a version of this once. It was very manual and a beast since they’re not formally denoted anywhere.

Might could do it again sometime…especially if everyone wants to help :-). Maybe we could divvy it up and have 24 people do one event each.

Remember the tekSUCKS two-step: peak in Nov, crater in Mar.

It would be a major disappointment for Stanford University to finish third to the University of tekSUCKS.

Hopefully, Katie Grimes is getting a real workout with the Sandpipers of Nevada under Ron Aitken during the winter break.

The blueprint for another University of Virginia women’s title:

W 50 FR
Sub 21.5
Greenwaldt, B.
Moesch, A.

W 100 FR
Sub 47.5
Mintenko, M.

W 200 FR
Sub 1:43 (W 4 x 200 FR-R)
Grimes, K. (if she wishes to participate)

W 500 FR
Sub 4:35
Gormsen, C.
Grimes, K.
Hartman, B.
Mintenko, M.

W 1650 FR
Sub 15:50
Gormsen, C.

That’s just the freestyle events.

To Todd DeSorbo, the message is clear: “Chop! Chop!”

Nebraska and Rutgers getting honorable mention over Washington State is ludicrous

I think Washington State has a pathway to the top 25. But I think Nebraska and Rutgers’ pathway is stronger. I think Washington State and Nebraska have a stronger pathway.

Remember that to be HM, someone has to have picked you top 25. It’s not just “the teams we think are the 7 next best teams). It’s teams that received votes, but not enough votes to be top 25. The difference between 25 and 30th is very, very small, so at that level, you’re picking on a hunch and the clearest pathway.

Nebraska has a scoring 800 free relay right now, and the distance freest (Gena Jorgenson) are generally less volatile than sprints. Jorgenson had a really, really good summer… Read more »

How about breaking down the projected point totals for the Top 5 Division I ranked women’s swimming & diving programs?

522.5 points for the University of Virginia?

Seriously?

Day 1: 5, 40, 34; 79 pts
Day 2: 17, 15, 14, 17, 12, 11, 6, 40; 132 pts
Day 3: 20, 12, 5, 11, 9, 17, 11, 5, 40; 130 pts
Day 4: 15, 14, 17, 13, 17, 20, 34; 130 pts
Total: 471 pts

The performance on Day 1 assumes C. Gormsen can match her five points in the W 1650 FR from the 2025 NCAA DI Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.

Until K. Grimes declares her intentions for the 2026 NCAA DI Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships, one cannot assume any points in the W 1650 FR especially with her current rate of decline.
