Simone Manuel had quite a showing at the 2025 US Open in Austin last weekend. The Olympic champion won the 100 free (53.2) and 200 free (1:56.6) and placed 2nd in the 50 free (24.4). Manuel was pleased with her win in the 200 free, noting that the altitude camp she and the Texas pro group are coming off of was quite challenging. This is Manuel’s fastest 200 free since 2019 and 2nd fastest performance ever.

The harsh reality is the female contingent of USA Swimming will need to post four sub 1:55 flat start times at the 2027 USA Swimming National Championships just to compete with the Aussies in the W 4 x 200 FR-R at the 2027 World Aquatics Championships.

A time of 1:56.6 would not have medaled in the W 200 FR at the 2012 Summer Olympics or the 2016 Summer Olympics.

What will the Aussies have to do to keep up with the US medley or Canadian Medley?

In the post-Titmuss era, not so much. O’Callahan is the ace, but there’s a big drop off after that.

Seems odd to focus on the 200, I dont think shes going to contribute a lot there to the team

I think it’s reasonable to think she still has it in her to go a best time. That’s got to be an awesome feeling and certainly helps with motivation.

All my admiration for those like Simone and Shaine who fought for so long to get back to awesome times ♥️ cannot even imagine the mental toll of that
