“Best of the Rest” Sprinter Andrew Malaj (2027) Announces Verbal Commitment to Indiana

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Andrew Malaj from Florida’s Sarasota High School and Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team has announced his intention to swim and study at Indiana University beginning in the fall of 2027. He told SwimSwam:

“I am super thrilled to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Indiana university. I want to thank my family, coaches, and friends for all the support along my journey. I also want to thank everyone on the coaching staff at Indiana for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. GO HOOSIERS”

Malaj specializes in sprints and is one of the “Best of the Rest” recruits from our Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimmers from the high school class of 2027.

He placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:37.43) and 7th in the 100 free (46.12) at the Florida High School Class 3A State Championships last month, coming within 1.3 seconds of his best 100 time and 1.5 of his best 200 time.

Malaj is coming off a long-course season that saw him finaling in the 100 free and establishing new PBs in the 100 free (51.72), 400 free (4:16.45), and 50 back (28.86) at U.S. Junior National Championships in August.

His best 50 free time dates from his sophomore year high school season, but the rest of his SCY lifetime bests come from the 2025 Florida Swimming LSC Short Course Senior Championships last March. There, he was runner-up in the 200 free and placed 6th in the 100 free, and he left the meet with PBs in the 100 free (44.87), 200 free (1:36.92), 500 free (4:28.00), 50 back (24.00), 100 back (51.51), and 100 fly (51.46).

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 20.86
  • 100 free – 44.87
  • 200 free – 1:36.92

Malaj will join the Hoosiers with #6 Brady Campbell, #9 Blake TeBeest, Jackson Edwards, and the #2 diver in the class, Jackson Monus.

His 400 meter free needs some work. Luckily for him, he’s going to the right place for that.
