Jack Alexy made his last prelims swim of 2025 a good one. Swimming in the final heat of the men’s 100 free, the California-trained star put up a 47.66 to bypass the Texas pool record as well as the Championship Record.
The previous U.S. Open meet record had stood for six years since Zach Apple established the 47.69 mark in 2019. That time remained Apple’s lifetime best through his retirement in 2022.
This time sits among some of Alexy’s fastest ever first-round swims in the event. In fact, it beats the 48.08 he went in prelims of the 2025 World Championships. He went on to earn silver in 46.92.
In the prior heat, Alexy’s 2024 Olympic teammate Chris Giuliano clocked a 47.70 to beat the previous pool record. Compare Alexy, Giuliano, and Apple’s splits in the table below.
| Jack Alexy, 2025 U.S. Open Prelims | Chris Giuliano, 2025 U.S. Open Prelims | Zach Apple, 2019 U.S. Open | |
| 50 | 22.89 | 22.83 | 23.06 |
| 100 | 47.66 (24.77) | 47.70 (24.87) | 24.63 (47.69) |
All three swims were strategized relatively similarly, but Alexy had a slightly faster gear down the home stretch to edge out the other two times.
The two Americans will lock horns tonight for another chance to lower the record. They previous squared off in the 50 free, with Giuliano establishing a new meet record of 21.57.

If anyone still doubts Alexy then

after his nasty 45.98 from last summer anchor on the medley relay , impossible to doubt his insane speed
With a fantastic looking beard.
Will he shave it before his 46.80 tonight?
Didn’t he go a 47.8 with a full on beard like a year or 2 ago in Colorado Springs?
He sure did. Two years ago.
