Oliver Sogaard-Andersen, a sophomore at USC, set his second Danish Record of the day in the semi-finals of the men’s 200 free tonight as he came within a quarter of a second of a berth in the final.
He was entered this morning with his previous best of 1:44.20, before clocking 1:43.44 to make the semi-finals as the final swimmer in. He was a benficiary of the ‘2 per nation’ rule which saw Tajus Juska, Kristupas Trepocka and 2023 champion Matt Richards miss out. Richards was initially the 3rd-fastest out of the heats, but both swimmers ahead of him were also from Great Britain.
That swim took quarter of a second off the previous Danish Standard, and he knocked another second off this evening to go 1:42.34.
Sogaard-Andersen was not the only Nordic swimmer in the men’s 200 free to make some noise. Sweden’s Robert Hanson was just 0.01 seconds off his nati0nal record as he qualified 5th into the final in 1:41.99, while Sander Sorensen was 1:42.22 for 9th after clocking a Norwegian Record of 1:41.87 in the heats.
