Futures Finalist Brooke Orner Verbals to West Virginia for 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sachem Swim Club’s Brooke Orner has verbally committed to West Virginia University as a part of the Mountaineer women’s 2027 recruiting class.

I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to West Virginia University to continue my athletic and academic career. I would like to thank Coach Brent MacDonald and the rest of the West Virginia coaching staff for their time and belief in me throughout the recruiting process. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Mountaineer Family. I would also like to thank Coach Kyle and Coach Julia for your guidance at SSC and developing me into the swimmer I am today. I would finally like to thank my parents, family, and friends for all the support and encouragement they have shown me throughout the years. None of this would be possible without you. I can’t wait to be able to represent WVU in the next chapter of my story. Country roads take me home! #HailWVπŸ’™πŸ’›

Orner, a native of Ridge, NY, nabbed a trio of lifetime bests at the Futures Championships (LCM) in Ocala in July. She clocked a best 50 butterfly time of 28.10, finishing 7th overall. She nabbed other best times in the 100 backstroke (1:07.52) and 200 freestyle (2:05.38).

One of her best short-course showings came in March at the WV Short Course Championships. There, she clocked a 50 free best of 23.25, dropping from her previous best from over a year earlier in 23.53. Additionally, Orner clocked a best 200 free time of 1:51.90 and 50 fly best of 25.03 at that meet.

Orner holds a 100 free best of 50.56 from April of this year, and a 100 fly best of 55.44 from the Speedo Sectionals in Providence in March.

Along with her sprint ability, Orner holds very respectable distance free bests of 5:05.17 in the 500 free and 17:29.17 in the 1650 free.

Best Times SCY:

  • 50 Free: 23.35
  • 100 Free: 50.56
  • 200 Free: 1:51.90
  • 500 Free: 5:05.17
  • 1650 Free: 17:29.17
  • 100 Fly: 55.44

The West Virginia women finished 9th at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships last season.

Based on Orner’s best times, she would have finished 31st in the 50 free, 26th in the 100 free, and 44th in the 200 free.

Orner’s sprint free is already pushing scoring contention within the Big 12. Her best time is just eight hundredths outside of scoring range, and with nearly two full seasons still to grow, Orner could be a contender in the Big 12.

Even though her 100 fly could grow to be a potential event, she sits just over a quarter of a second off of what would have been 24th (55.09). With that event on the same day as the 200 free, that could be the direction that she moves.

Orner is the first publicized commit for West Virginia’s 2027 recruiting class.
