It was a familiar school atop both podiums at the Alabama Athletic Association 6A-7A state championships.

The Huntsville boys added to their already state record total of championships, claiming their 22nd overall and 10th in a row.

The girls’ team won its 13th overall title and first since 2021, finishing 13 points ahead of runner-up Virgil Grissom.

Girls’ Recap

Huntsville won it all despite not finishing first in any event. Paige Quadrini was the top point getter for Huntsville, finishing 2nd in the 100 fly (57.14) and 4th in the 100 free (53.41), both personal best times.

The individual standouts were Bob Jones junior Abby Chan, Davidson junior Peyton Williams and Northview’s Julia Muse.

Chan, who has committed to Florida, first repeated as champion in the 100 fly in a personal best time of 52.79. Later, Chan won her third straight title in the 100 back in a time of 53.78.

Williams won the 200 free in a time of 1:49.75 and then took the 100 free in a time of 50.89.

Muse captured the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:06.82 and then also swam a personal best time of 1:03.58 to win the 100 breast.

Other individual winners were Vestavia Hills senior Rilie Reid in the 50 free (personal best 23.78), James Clemens senior Laurel Hunter in 1-meter diving (379.5 points) and Auburn’s Madison Whidden in the 500 free (5:09.44).

In the relays, the Bob Jones team of Emilie Tesseneer (27.95), Isabelle Park (30.31), Chan (23.31) and Meli Mbuko (24.36) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:45.93.

In the 200 free relay, Spain Park’s squad of Anne Russell (24.27), Jemma Baldwin (25.15), Josie Corgill (25.16) and Carrie Corgill (23.95) finished first in a time of 1:38.53.

The 400 free relay was won by the James Clemens team of Tatum Scully (52.01), Kinsey Travis-Kinder (55.06), Kayla Samad (55.80) and Fiona Scully (54.21) in 3:37.08.

Boys’ Recap

Huntsville left little doubt, accumulating 135 more points than runner-up Auburn High School.

As was the case with the girls’ team, the Huntsville boys prevailed despite not winning an event.

The top point getter for Huntsville was  freshman Drew Bedsole, who took 2nd in the 200 free (1:41.44) and 100 free (46.91), both in personal best times.

Individually, two swimmers from James Clemens, senior Christian Wester and freshman Brody Tindoll, won multiple events.

Wester won the 200 IM for the second year in a row, doing so in a personal best time of 1:51.61. He then also repeated in the 100 back in a time of 49.64.

Tindoll finished first in the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:41.41, just three one-hundredths ahead of Bedsole.  Tindoll later won the 500 free in a personal best time of 4:40.06.

The two were also a part of winning teams in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

The team of Wester (23.25), Will Ross (25.82), Leland Barbour (23.94), and Tindoll (21.18) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:34.19.

In the 200 free relay, the team of Tindoll (21.75), Ross (22.01), Barbour (22.03) and Wester (20.56) won in a time of 1:26.35.

The 400 free relay was won by the Vestavia Hills quartet of Drew Hilsmier (45.27), Bennett Lowther (46.13), Shepherd Rubin (48.09) and Tucker Hicks (50.14) in 3:09.63.

Other individual winners were:

  • Spanish Fort’s Noah Greene won the 50 free in a personal best 20.97.
  • Virgil Grissom junior Casey Sapp won the 1-meter diving with 4446.65 points.
  • Hilsmier, a junior, captured the 100 fly in a personal best time of 49.67.
  • Lowther, a sophomore, swam a personal best time of 46.03 to win the 100 free.
  • Virgil Grissom senior Parker Barnett topped the field in the 100 breast in a personal best time of 56.64.
