The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) is hosting their championship meets this weekend. The Division I meet is being held at the Oakland University pool in Rochester. While a full recap is on the way, we wanted to give the spotlight to the MHSAA state records that were set earlier today.
West Bloomfield senior Elizabeth Eichbrecht shattered the MHSAA state meet record in the 200 free this morning, ripping a new career best of 1:45.05. That swim tore down 10-time Olympic medalist Allison Schmitt’s HS state record of 1:46.25, which was set back in 2007.
The performance also took almost half-a-second off Eichbrecht’s previous career best of 1:45.48, which she set 2 weeks ago at her conference meet.
Following that performance in the 200 free, Eichbrecht went on to swim a 4:42.00 in the 500 free. That performance took down the MHSAA DI meet record of 4:44.47, which Lola Mull set back in 2017. That swim was just off Eichbrecht’s career best of 4:41.54, which she also set at her conference meet 2 weeks ago.

Much needed shot in the arm for a struggling 500 group, and will mesh into a really strong 200 group! Congrats, so exciting!
