UConn Claims 12 of 16 Events In Victory Over Northeastern In Battle of Huskies

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s swimming and diving team rolled in a win over Northeastern University at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

In a battle of the Huskies, the home Huskies cruised to victory in a 180-120 victory. This was an all-around effort, as both the UConn swimmers and divers brought their best effort, placing 1st in 12 of 16 events.

“I think we were really able to bring the energy,” said junior swimmer Bridget Davis. “We won our last meet away and we just wanted to bring it home to Storrs and we were able to do that.”

It was also a day to remember for freshman diver Ruth Spiegel, who contributed mightly for the Huskies, picking up her first career win.

“It’s super exciting,” said Speigel, “There’s been a lot since I got here about trusting the process and leaning into going back to the basics and I feel like today really culminated into showing on the big stage.”

The Huskies now have won 2 in a row, with their sights now set on the Iowa Invitational, which is set for November 18th in Iowa City.

“We’re in a good spot,” said head coach Chris Maiello on the team’s momentum heading to Iowa. “We’re excited looking forward to our mid-season championship in Iowa and they’ll be better than they were here in two weeks.”

STORRS, Conn. — The Northeastern women’s swimming and diving team (2-1) fell to UCONN 180-120 on Saturday afternoon at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. Despite the loss, the Huskies showcased strong performances across multiple events, highlighted by four individual event victories and a relay win.

  • The 200 Medley relay team of sophomore Delaney Alonso, graduate student Elisabeth Bendall, freshman Alex Fuller and junior May Bradburn opened the meet with a victory, touching the wall in 1:41.43 to edge the University of Connecticut by nearly a full second. The Huskies swam a record relay time at the UCONN pool.
  • Northeastern kept up it’s early success as freshman Siena Griffiths captured her first individual victory of the day in the 200 Free with a time of 1:51.62.
  • In the seventh event, May Bradburn swam to victory in the 50 Free, clocking a winning time of 23.10 while teammate junior Mary Nordmann finished just behind in second place at 23.32. Bradburn set a pool record at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
  • Freshman Alex Fuller dominated the 100 Free with a time of 50.93, nearly six-tenths of a second ahead of the field. Nordmann added another runner-up finish for the Huskies with a time of 51.50.
  • Fuller swept her individual events by claiming the 100 Fly title in 54.88, with Bradburn finishing a close second at 54.93 for a one-two Huskies finish.
  • The Huskies closed out the meet with a dominant performance in the 400 Free Relay, as Bradburn, Nordmann, Kotoko Blair and Fuller combined for a winning time of 3:25.00, nearly four seconds ahead of UConn’s top relay and setting another relay pool record.

The Huskies return to action when they compete at the Terrier Invitational for a weekend long competition beginning on Fri, Nov. 21 and ending on Sun, Nov. 23 at Boston University.
