Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Mirielle Trumpower has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at Liberty University, becoming the university’s second publicized commit in the class of 2031.
Trumpower confirmed the decision in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my academic and athletic journey at Liberty University. This opportunity is truly a blessing, and I give all the glory to God for guiding me every step of the way. He has worked in amazing ways, surrounding me with incredible people who have helped me grow as both a swimmer and a follower of Christ. A huge thank you to my mom/coach, my dad, and Coach Debby for guiding me and encouraging me through this journey. Thank you also to Coach Jake, Coach Jess, and all of the Liberty staff for giving me this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to join a community that not only pursues excellence in the pool and classroom, but also puts Christ at the center of everything. I am confident that my time at Liberty will help me grow into the woman that God created me to be. GO FLAMES!!!🔥 ❤️💙 “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
The future Eagle is from Mansfield, Ohio, where she attends Ontario High School and trains year-round with Rocket Swim Club. She’s a versatile sprinter, strong across the freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke events, who also swims the 200 back.
Trumpower ran cross country and track in 7th and 8th grade, and won AAU Nationals for the 1500-meter run when she was eight, which led to a feature in Sports Illustrated Kids. She comes from a family of athletes—one of eight kids, her older sister Brienne swims for the University of Akron, while her oldest sister Carolina ran for Asbury University.
The 2024-25 season saw her make some big strides in the pool (no pun intended): she dropped from 23.92 to 23.71 in the 50 free, 56.38 to 55.17 in the 100 fly, and 2:06.09 to 2:02.60 in the 200 back, while she stayed fairly stagnant in the 100 free and 100 back, dropping from 52.33 to 52.23 in the former and 56.22 to 56.17 in the latter.
Trumpower’s big meet of the 2024-25 high school season was the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Championships in February, where she took bronze in the 100 fly (55.17) and fourth in the 100 back (56.17) with her current bests. She also helped Ontario nab a pair of sixth-place finishes in the free relays, leading off the 200 relay in 23.08 and the 400 free relay in a then-season-best 52.87.
She made leaps from her freshman debut a year prior, when she placed third in the 100 fly with a slower 56.24 and secured seventh in the 100 back at 57.38.
Trumpower capped off her short course season at the Mako Senior Meet at the end of March. Her highest finishes came in the 200 back and 100 fly, where she posted the aforementioned 2:02.60 as well as her second-quickest-ever 100 fly time of 55.53. She went on to stop the clock at 13th in the 100 free with a best time of 52.23, touched the wall 14th in the 100 back in 57.53, and checked in at 24.21 for 15th in the 50 free.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 23.71
- 100 Freestyle: 52.23
- 100 Butterfly: 55.17
- 100 Backstroke: 56.17
- 200 Backstroke: 2:02.60
Liberty is a Division I mid-major private evangelical Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia, with over 135,000 students—115,000 of which are enrolled in online programs and about 16,000 on campus.
Under the direction of Liberty’s first and only head coach Jake Shellenberger, the Flames decisively won the 2025 Atlantic Sun Championship (ASUN) title by 168.5 points. On July 1, the Lady Flames joined the American Conference as an affiliate member in women’s swimming & diving.
The American Conference meet features ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and Trumpower’s personal bests would have placed her in the ‘B’ finals of the 100 fly, 100 back, and 200 back, and in the ‘C’ finals of the 50 free and 100 free. Times of 54.73 and 1:59.63 were needed to make the backstroke championship finals, while the 100 fly required 54.54. Those marks aren’t far off from her current bests, and she still has two more years to develop before arriving in Lynchburg.
