Eammon Gumley Breaks British National Age Group Record in 50 Fly

British 15-year old Eammon Gumley, who trains at the famous ex-pat club Hamilton Aquatics in Dubai, has broken the British National Age Record in the 50 long course meter fly with a 25.59 on Saturday morning.

Gumley trains under coach Ash Morris in Dubai.

“Eammon swam the perfect race,” Morris said. He was next to Velimir Stjepanovic and matched him on his under water and then tried to race him! It was a fantastic and well executed race from such a young and talented athlete who deserves this achievement.”

Swimming at the Hamilton Aquatics Summer Sizzler, Gumely put in a 25.59. That’s half-a-second better than his lifetime best coming into the meet.

The former fastest time for a British 15-year old was a 25.67, done in 2011 by Oliver Leonard from Windsor. Leonard has only improved his best time in the event by a tenth-of-a-second in the three years since.

In other swims at the meet, Gumley also won the 100 free in 54.92, the 100 fly in 1:00.52, and the 50 free in 25.41 – just a couple of ticks better than his 50 fly time.

Gumley is of dual Australian and British nationality, and plans to head to the U.S. for college in two years.

The 100 Fly time was 1.00.52. This was a typo. His PB is 59.7

He went the same time in 100 free and 100 fly? That’s rather impressive. Although his 50 times suggest it is possible.
