Jacob Johnson’s Former Club Teammate Henry Anstine (2027) Commits to University of Minnesota

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Henry Anstine of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota, where he’ll join the Golden Gophers in the fall of 2027. A junior at Malvern Prep, Anstine trains with the Suburban Seahawks Club—the same program that produced current Minnesota standout Jacob Johnson, who has emerged as one of the top flyers in the Big Ten.

Johnson made headlines after breaking the school record in the 200 fly (1:39.96) as a freshman and earning All-Big Ten Second Team, All-Freshman Team, and CSCAA Scholar All-American First Team honors. After finishing 10th at NCAAs and 2nd at Big Tens in the 200 fly, his standout season culminated in being named Swimmer of the Year at Minnesota’s team banquet. Anstine will continue that Pennsylvania-to-Minnesota pipeline as he aims for similar success in the Big Ten.

Ski-U-Mah! I’m ecstatic to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota to pursue my academic and athletic careers! I would like to thank all the coaches that I have had throughout the years, along with my teammates. I would like to give a special thanks to my parents and my sister for helping me be the best version of myself each and every day. I would also like to thank the coaches at Minnesota for this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to join this amazing team in Minneapolis! Go Gophers!

At the 2025 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, Anstine collected 2 top 8 finishes and helped Malvern Prep to 5th place in both sprint free relays. His 48 points helped the team to a sixth-place overall finish out of 42 schools. He placed 4th in the 100 free with a best time of 45.82 and 8th in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.28. That was just a second off his PB of 1:41.17 and a touch slower than his prelims swim of 1:41.86. Anstine also split 45.17 in Malvern Prep’s 400 free relay and 20.76 in the 200 free relay, both of which he anchored.

Anstine’s long course season was highlighted by a series of PBs at the NCSA Summer Championships. There, he hit best times in the 200 free (1:55.68) and 50 free (23.61). The latter was done leading off Suburban Seahawks’ 6th place 200 free relay. He also posted times just off his PBs in the 100 free (52.89) and individual 50 free (23.77), finishing 33rd and 7th, respectively. Anstine contributed to several other relays at the meet as well, splitting 50.95 in the 400 medley relay, 23.28 in the 200 medley relay, and 51.38 in the 400 free relay, all of which he anchored.

Best times SCY:

  • 50 free: 21.11
  • 100 free: 45.70
  • 200 free: 1:41.17
  • 500 free: 4:37.86

Minnesota, which is in the Big Ten, finished 5th at conference championships last year. While the Gophers haven’t moved up from that spot in the past three seasons, it still marks progress from 2022, when they finished seventh.

Anstine sits just outside scoring range based on last year’s Big Ten standards, where it took 19.73, 43.48, and 1:36.52 to earn a second swim in the sprint freestyle events. Sprint free has been a soft spot for Minnesota, with no scorers in the 50 or 100 and only two in the 200 last season. If Anstine keeps progressing however, he could address a clear gap in the Gophers’ lineup.

He will join Ryan Wanner, a breast/IM specialist, in Minnesota’s 2027 recruiting class.
