Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Issac Adanin of Saline, Michigan, has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of North Carolina, starting in the fall of 2027. Adanin trains year-round with Club Wolverine and attends Saline High School.
Adanin confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina! I’m so grateful for my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me along the way. Also thank you to Coach Mark and Coach Kirk for giving me this opportunity. GO HEELS!
Adanin, a breaststroke and IM specialist, got the 2024-25 season rolling at the FMC Speedo Grand Challenge in late November. He produced best times in each of his individual events, with his highest placements coming in the 100 IM (51.78) and 200 IM (1:51.06), where he finished fifth. In the breaststroke events, he clocked 2:04.52 for ninth in the 200 and 57.25 for 12th in the 100.
His times in the 100 breast and 200 IM took down his former bests of 57.93 and 1:52.48 from March 2024, while his 200 breast performance obliterated the 2:09.20 he put on the books in November 2023.
Adanin’s newly-minted bests were short-lived. At the Winter Junior Championships just a few weeks later, he swam to 47th in the 200 IM (1:49.96), 52nd in the 200 breast (2:02.87), 64th in the 400 IM (3:58.78), and 77th in the 100 breast (56.87), obliterating all of his lifetime bests once again.
After a few more months of intensive training with the high school season getting underway, his next big meet was the MHSAA Boys Division 1 State Championship in March. He won the 200 IM in a time of 1:48.24, topping his old best by 1.72 seconds. He later won the 100 breast in 56.23, beating his old best by 0.64 seconds. He played a key factor on both free relays, splitting 45.88 on the runner-up 400 free relay and 20.98 on the 200 free relay that took third.
Adanin’s performances marked an improvement from the 2024 edition of the meet, when he finished second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breast as a freshman.
This past summer in the long course pool, Adanin qualified for the Futures Championship, where he swam at the Ocala location. He put his hand on the wall 10th in the 200 IM (2:07.34), 17th in the 400 IM (4:31.30), 18th in the 100 breast (1:05.14), 20th in the 50 breast (30.18), and 26th in the 200 breast (2:23.13). All of his times represented career bests except the 200 breast, where his best remains the 2:23.08 he swam in March 2024.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Breaststroke: 55.96
- 200 Breaststroke: 2:01.68
- 200 IM: 1:48.24
Under the direction of head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heel men finished fourth out of 15 teams at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships. It was a blockbuster year for the squad as they were eighth out of 11 teams in 2024.
The team went on to place 23rd at the NCAA Championships, with IM specialist Louis Dramm (10), breaststroker Ben Delmar (4), and butterflier Patrick Foy (1) accumulating all of their individual points.
The conference meet offers ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and it took times of 53.12, 1:55.80, and 1:44.70 to make the top 24 in Adanin’s three best events.
According to the team’s 2024–25 depth chart, Adanin’s personal best in the 200 breast would have situated him fifth on the team, while his 100 breast and 200 IM times would have put him sixth and 13th. Delmar notched 51.44 and 1:50.51 to lead the way in the breaststrokes, while Dramm produced 1:40.92 to dominate the 200 IM standings.
Adanin joins Hampton Stuecker, a fly and IM specialist with best of 1:50.45 in the 200 fly and 1:52.02/3:55.32 in the IMs as UNC’s only publicized commits in the 2031 recruiting class.
