2025 World Cup – Westmont: #7 Seed Ella Jansen Scratches 200 Butterfly Final

2025 WORLD AQUATICS SWIMMING WORLD CUP – Westmont

The first prelims session of the 2025 World Cup – Westmont went off this morning with many of the stars out in full force.

For tonight’s finals session, there’s only one scratch to report: Canadian Ella Jansen has dropped the 200 butterfly from her schedule, an event she was seeded 7th in after clocking 2:09.13 this morning—off her lifetime best of 2:07.93 from December 2022. Her withdrawal opens a spot in the final for USC sophomore Camden Doane, who posted a best time of 2:12.51 to rank ninth after prelims.

While no reason for the scratch has been publicized, the Tennessee sophomore will instead shift all of her focus to the timed final of the 400 freestyle, the first event of the evening, where she’s ranked 8th with her second-fastest ever long course time of 4:07.36.

The 400 free is scheduled for 6:02 pm (Central Time), with the 200 fly set for just over 30 minutes later at 6:34 pm, which would have made for a grueling double if she had kept her entry in the latter event.

Swimmers can race as many events as they want at each stop, but only their three best swims count toward their overall standing. With $112,000 USD on offer for each gender at each stop ($672,000 for the whole series), limiting events could mean targeting better scores in other events. Prize money is awarded to the top 20 overall swimmers at each stop, with men and women scored separately. In the event of a tie, the swimmer with the higher AQUA Power Points in their best event wins.

Over the next two days, Jansen is set to take on the 100/200 free, 200/400 IM, and 100 fly.

This is the first stop of the circuit that Jansen has attended in this World Cup, likely due to conflicts with NCAA meets at Tennessee and her studies. The final stop of the circuit is set for next week in Toronto (October 23-25) in her home nation, and entries for that meet have not yet been publicized.

I would assume Ella goes to Austin with her team that next weekend. She’s probably just feeling good with her 400 free- knowing the probable order already of 2fly tonight
