Savannah Duffy of Fredericksburg, Virginia, has announced her commitment to swim and study at the United States Naval Academy. Duffy trains year-round with the Rappahannock Stingrays Swim Team and is set to graduate from Stafford Senior High School in the spring of 2027.
The butterfly specialist confirmed her commitment in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am so BEYOND excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to serve, swim and study at the United States Naval Academy! I would like to thank my family, teammates, friends and coaches for supporting me throughout this process. A special shoutout to Coach Anthony for getting me to this moment and Coach Mo, Coach Caryle and Coach Clay for giving me this amazing opportunity! Can’t wait for the next 4!
Duffy’s first target meet of the 2024-25 season was the SRVA Commonwealth Cup in November. At the meet, she picked up bronze in the 100 fly (54.47), finished eighth in the 200 fly (2:07.94), 14th in the 100 free (52.94), and 17th in the 50 free (24.25) and 200 IM (2:09.79). Her times in the 100 fly and 50 free represented new career bests, improving on her prior marks of 54.76 and 24.47 from March, while everything else was a season best.
She qualified and competed at the Winter Junior Championships a month later, hitting the wall 35th in the 100 fly (55.01) and 72nd in the 200 fly (2:08.95).
After a winter training block and some dual meets, Duffy swam at the VHSL 6A State Championships in March. She finished second in the 100 fly (55.09) and took 10th in the 50 free (24.33). While she was shy of her best times from November, she maintained her silver medal in the 100 fly from 2024. Her switch from the 100 free, where she placed 16th last year, to the 50 free proved worthwhile.
Just a few days after VHSL, Duffy participated in the Virginia Short Course Senior Championships. She slid under her best time in the 200 fly by 0.43 seconds to take 10th with a time of 2:04.57. She also finished ninth in the 100 fly in 55.29, 28th in the 200 IM with a season-best 2:09.32, and touched 43rd in the 100 free (53.61) and 45th in the 50 free (24.77).
Duffy ended the short course season at the NCSA Spring Championships, clocking 25.05 for 19th in the 50 fly, 55.04 for 21st in the 100 fly, and 2:06.87 for 60th in the 200 fly.
Her 100 free personal best of 52.22, the only event she didn’t improve in last season, dates back to the 2023–24 Virginia Short Course Senior Championships, where she finished 14th.

A Division I Mid-Major program, Navy competes in the Patriot League, with the women’s team winning their 13th straight conference title at the 2025 Patriot League Championships.
The Navy and Army swimming teams have a longstanding rivalry in the pool, which has historically seen the Midshipmen come out on top. The Navy women’s 35-year dual meet winning streak was broken back in December, when Army beat the Midshipmen 169-131.
Based on the results from the 2025 conference meet, Duffy’s current times would have placed her in the ‘A’ final of the 100 fly, the ‘B’ final of the 200 fly, and the ‘C’ final of the 100 free. She’s also not far off scoring range in the 50 and 200 free, which required times of 24.05 and 1:54.72 to make the top 24. With two full seasons remaining before she joins the team, Duffy is poised to become one of Navy’s top-scoring swimmers.
The only other publicized recruit set to join Duffy as part of Navy’s class of 2031 is Chloe Gustin, a distance freestyle specialist.
