How It Happened
Rhode Island’s depth flexed its muscle in its season opener, as the Rams won 11 of 16 events while sweeping Siena (203-94) and Stonehill (225-68) Saturday afternoon.
Rhody took three of the top four spots in seven of the events, including 1-2-3 sweeps in the 1- and 3-meter dives, as well as the 400-yard individual medley. Molly Beckwith, Julianna Tyler and Olivia Winslow each won two individual events as URI cruised to a pair of wins.
Winslow won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. In the 1-meter event, she won with a score of 282.75. Emily Whiteneck (244.73) and Kelsey Kreuscher (226.80) were second and third, respectively. The same trio swept the 3-meter event. Winslow won with a score of 274.05 and time Kreuscher took second (271.80) and Whiteneck third (256.95).
Tyler led a sweep of the 400-yard individual medley. Her time of 4:39.28 was ahead of Lily Gugino (4:42.71), who edged third-place finisher Emma Raser (4:43.27).
Tyler also won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.76. Mary McCormick (2:11.18) placed second, while Emma Burtotto (2:15.21) was fourth.
Beckwith, making her collegiate debut, won both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly races. She took the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.58, edging teammate Rylee Kelly (1:55.98). Zara Beaumont was fourth in the race with a time of 1:59.09.
Beckwith and Lily Mair gave Rhody a 1-2 finish in the 100 butterfly. Beckwith won in 58:30, while Mair finished in 1:00.26.
Standouts from the Pool
- Cate Carboni beat the field in the 1000-yard freestyle by nearly six seconds, winning in a time of 11:04.94. Meghan Pauley was third with a time of 11:18.95.
- Emma Raser won the 200-yard backstroke with her time of 2:11.14. Lauren Biglow (2:11.72) added a third-place finish.
- 200-yard breaststroke
- Maddy Deeney won the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2:28.99, edging teammate Lily Gugino (2:29.49).
- Mary McCormick was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.20. Rhody also took second and fourth place, as Zara Beaumont finished in 5:20.38 and Ella Arbeiter touched the wall in 5:20.96.
- In the final event of the day, Rhode Island took first, third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Avery Potyrala, Rylee Kelly, Chloe Robinson and Emma Raser won in 1:39.39. Molly Beckwith, Lily Mair, Maddy Deeney and Emma Bertotto placed third (1:40.45), while Carolyn Wanosik, Mary McCormick, Ella Arbeiter and Abby Zadorozny were fourth (1:42.54).

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Swimming & Diving took to the Siena Swim Center for the first time for the 2025-26 season, hosting Stonehill and Rhode Island in a tri-meet. The Saints earned their first victory of the season with a 193-92 decision over Stonehill, while Rhode Island got the upperhand 203-94.
Siena’s 200 medley relay team of Gabrielle Rentosa, Leslie Dame, Clara Samko, and Mea Amedio took first with a winning time of 1:49.27. Rentosa also earned an individual win in the 100 back by tying her top 10 performance time of 59.45.
The freshman Samko followed her impressive collegiate debut from last Saturday, this time winning the 50 free in 24.57 – just .07 seconds away from a program top ten time. Amedio took second in the race (25.06). Samko followed with her second consecutive win in the 100 free, clocking in at 53.36.
Mary Ellen Stratman placed second in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.25, which was .11 seconds off the winner.
Program 200 free record holder GayLynn Kirn took third in the event, touching the wall in 1:57.58. Skylar Ricard also had a third place showing in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.96. She also had a third-place finish in the 500 free (5:20.91). Carsyn Ide placed third in the 100 fly (1:01.18).
Additionally, the 200 free relay team of Samko, Rentosa, Julia Filiault, and Camryn Raines took second in 1:39.41 – .02 seconds from a win.
On the boards, Claire Donlon took fourth on the 1m (214.80) and Sydney Murray fifth (181.43) and on the 3m, with Donlon scoring 237.60 and Murray 200.33.
Siena returns to action at noon next Saturday, Oct. 18, to take on Rochester and Canisius in Rochester, NY.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2025) — In a tri-meet against Siena and Rhode Island, sophomore Lily Peterson took home the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke at Siena’s Marcelle Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.
Peterson won the event with a time of 1:08.59. She also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing at 2:29.72.
Junior Grace Idowu also posted strong performances with the Skyhawks. Idowu was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 53.7 and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.14). Classmate Isabella Rodriguez took second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:10.72).
As a team, Rhode Island picked up a pair of victories against Stonehill (225-68) and Siena (203-94), while the Sainta topped the Skyhawks (193-92).
Stonehill will return to action against Merrimack and Sacred Heart when the Skyhawks host the tri-meet on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12 p.m.
