Caspar Corbeau Claims First Individual Dutch Record With 25.78 In 50 Breaststroke

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

Caspar Corbeau carried his fantastic Day 1 form into the second day of racing in Carmel, setting his first individual Dutch Record with a time of 25.78 in the men’s 50 breaststroke.

With Arno Kamminga having done serious damage to the Dutch breaststroke record books, Corbeau has not yet had the opportunity to write his name into them despite being one of the top male breaststrokers. He took bronze in the 200 at the Paris Olympics last year and in Singapore this summer, and has become a consistent world-level finalist in both the 100 and 200.

He has been part of a pair of 4×100 medley relay records, at the Doha World Championships in 2024 and in Singapore this summer. In addition, he was part of the 4×100 mixed medley relay that set a Dutch record in short course last December, making this the fourth Dutch Record he has been part of.

In tonight’s swim, Corbeau split 11.78/14.00, with the fastest second 25 in the field, however he just ran out of room to take down Chris Smith for the win. He shaved nearly three-tenths of a second from his previous best time of 26.07 set last year, and made it two-from-two in terms of breaststroke PBs, having taken two-tenths off his 100 breast mark in prelims yesterday.

He now ranks as the 18th-fastest swimmer in history, and the 10th fastest European.

Its odd that his tie to the Netherlands is through dual citizenship though his father grew up in the US and both went to high school and college here
