College Swimming Weekly Preview: October 6-12

It is a busy week of the college dual meet schedule in addition to the first World Cup stop that is taking place in Carmel, Indiana.

The first meet highlighting the week is the dual meet between Florida and Virginia. It is the first official meet for the Cavaliers as Virginia raced Navy in an exhibition meet on September 27th. The team’s met a year ago as Virginia won the women’s side 181-119 while the Florida men won 231-69.

The other big meet of the week is a showdown between two SEC schools as Alabama hosts Texas. The two last competed in a dual meet back in 2023 and is the second meet of the season for both programs.

SMU will host the SMU Classic which has Auburn, LSU, and Louisville also in attendance.

SwimSwam’s Top 25 Power Rankings will be coming out soon so stay tuned for that list.

Note: Many members of the SwimSwam staff have searched websites to compile this list. Not all schools have schedules posted yet (still waiting on ~5 schools) and meets are occasionally added/removed after this list is compiled. Some schools also have conflicting data ie, one school posts the meet being X date while the other posts Y date.

Looks like UVA-UF will not be streaming. I mean why should it be? It’s only a meeting of national powerhouses with multiple Olympians competing.

Plausible deniability for uva if things don’t go well for them? They love having only good media coverage.

This makes no sense as UVA records and posts almost all their races on their YouTube channel, whether good or bad, whether home or away.

The meet is in Florida – why would it be up to UVA to stream? asking for a friend …

Guess Auburn is splitting the squad? Two meets same time.

SMU classic is capped at 10 or 12 swimmers per team

Isn’t it 8 plus 1 diver. Unless they changed it.

You’re right. I was going off memory and my memory didn’t hold up well.

Wish Texas men were still going. Would’ve loved to have seen what Bowman would come up with. It is an interesting idea for a meet.

Historically it’s been 8 swimmers and 1 diver per team.

What happened to the ISL?

So, what happens here? does Florida bring divers and score those points, do they make a deal and leave divers at home? Just wondering.

The meet is at Florida so I am sure the divers will be diving just like a meet.

Doesn’t UVA have a dive team? I’m confused.

It’s like high school meets where the other school “had” to get rid of their diving board.

Swimmers on UVA can dive officially and earn points on 1 & 3 meter if they do not belly flop all dives – Just kidding but it has been done by many schools back in the good old days. Better to let the expert divers from UF go 1-3! Go GATORS!
