The announcement of the new NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championship format sent the college swimming world into a frenzy, and the group responsible for the approval is the NCAA Swimming and Diving Oversight Committee.
The changes to the format were not anticipated to be enacted for the current season, but the oversight committee approved the proposal for this season, making the changes immediate.
The purpose of the group is to oversee and make decisions related to the ongoing management of Division I swimming and diving, including matters such as rule modifications, competition format updates, and championship policy development.
The committee is made up of 18 members (per NCAA):
- 4 representatives from the autonomy conferences – 1 from each conference.
- 4 representatives from the highest ranked nonautonomy conferences.
- 2 representatives from the remaining conferences to represent swimming.
- 2 representatives from the remaining conferences to represent diving.
- 3 student-athlete representatives.
- 1 male swimming and diving student-athlete from any conference
- 1 female swimming and diving student-athlete from any conference
- 1 male or female diving student-athlete from any conference
- 1 faculty athletics representative (nonvoting).
- 1 rules-editor (nonvoting).
- 1 coaches association representative (nonvoting).
Here is the full list of committee members:

Of the accumulated committee members, there are only a handful of coaching representatives, and even fewer from top 10 teams from NCAAs a season ago (Lauren Rust from Louisville, and Mike Spiegler of Florida).
So this impact of the new NCAA championship format was a decision approved by a group of individuals that are not directly feeling the ramifications of this seismic change, due to the fact that they do not represent programs that will be most affected.

Do we know if this is the most up to date list? I thought Hollie’s time was up after last season.
Here’s the link on the NCAA website: https://web1.ncaa.org/committees/#/reports/roster?committeeCode=1SWIMOC
Most up to date list available…Hollie’s term is until August 2029. Maybe you’re thinking of a different committee?
I’ve never heard of one of those colleges. And I’m always surprised to see that North Texas still has a swim team. You used to see them at meets 20 years ago, and at some point they sort of disappeared. Do they ever go to meets?
WHat’s really absurd is the Big 12 gets the same rules as the Mid-Majors…even though its considered a Power 4 conference.
All the conferences get the same rules. If you win the ACC under the time standard, then automatically qualify. Same for the Big12. Same for the MAC. Same for the Summit.
Is there a way to contact the NCAA to express concern about the event order and B finals?
Yes you can file a letter to the round trash container on the floor at the NCAA office. Keep it short.
Absurd makeup of a committee in charge of D1 champ meet
Will conferences switch to this order of events?
And there we have it. It explains a lot.
No ‘there’ there.
Why isn’t bob, or Dave, or Braden, or Todd, or Ray, or Kredich, or Nesty on this committee? Seems like they should probably have an opinion on how scoring and format for NCAAs is decided?
Probably the same reason coaches of large programs are generally not that involved in their LSC governance.
I’m sure they’re not on the committee because they don’t want to be.
So many schools that have never had a B finalist, and certainly never an A finalist, and likely never a qualifier. And of course Holly is in there. Grrrrrr….
what’s the tea on Holly…?👀
Born on third base and thought she hit a triple
One of the most incompetent coaches in the NCAA today
idk if you saw my comment but swim swam took it down
