University of Chicago Gains Backstroker Kanish Chakraborty For 2026

Backstroke specialist Kanish Chakraborty has committed to swim for the University of Chicago’s Division III program beginning in the fall of 2026. Based in Motor City, Dubai, Chakraborty currently trains with Hamilton Aquatics and attends Jumeirah College.

Chakraborty recently posted several long course personal bests at the 51st Indian Junior National Aquatic Championships 2025, held in August in Ahmedabad, India. He won the 100 back (57.40), 200 back (2:04.98), and 400 IM (4:36.63), and finished 2nd in the 200 IM (2:08.69) and 50 back (27.05). His times in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM all remain as his lifetime bests.

Top Times

The Chicago Maroons placed 3rd out of 8 teams at the 2025 Men’s University Athletic Association Championships. Chakraborty could help strengthen the team’s backstroke group, as his converted 200 back time of 1:50.43 would have ranked as the second-fastest on the team last season. The top 200 back time was 1:47.20, posted by John Butler, who will be a sophomore in the 2025–2026 season.

Chakraborty will head to campus in the fall of 2026, along with fellow recruits Kevin Zhan and Victor Krautsov. Krautsov also brings a solid 100 back time of 52.29.
