Versatile sprinter Grace Descent, a native of Saint Petersburg, Florida, has committed to swim and study at Liberty University, beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. She trains year-round with St. Petersburg Aquatics and attends Keswick Christian High School.
Descent confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:

Descent’s target meets for the last high school season were the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 1A District 8 meet, 1A Region 3 Championships, and 1A State Championships, all held in November.
At Districts, Descent walked away with four gold medals, all in the sprint freestyle events. She swept the 50 and 100 individually, clocking times of 24.29 and 52.80. She also led off both the 200 and 400 free relays in quicker times of 24.11 and 52.23—the former a season best, and the latter a personal best.
Come the Region meet, Descent’s relay prowess continued and she once again won a total of four gold medals. She led off both relays in lifetime bests, breaking 24 for the first time in the 50 free with a 23.91 and hitting 52.20 in the 100. She won the individual events with marks of 24.20 and 52.27, respectively.
Descent was able to hold her top form through State, where she touched seventh in the 50 free (24.13) and 10th in the 100 free (52.47), within striking distance of her best times from two weeks prior. She led off the 8th-place 200 free relay in 24.29 and the 8th-place 400 free relay in 52.68.
Outside of high school competition, Descent dabbles in other sprint events and owns bests of 1:53.03 in the 200 free, 57.35 in the 100 fly, and 57.54 in the 100 back, all stemming from the previous two seasons.

Liberty is a Division I mid-major private evangelical Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia, with over 135,000 students—115,000 of which are enrolled in online programs and about 16,000 on campus.
Under the direction of Liberty’s first and only head coach Jake Shellenberger, the Flames decisively won the 2025 Atlantic Sun Championship (ASUN) title by 168.5 points.
The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Descent’s best times in the 100 fly and 100 back would have secured her a spot in the consolation heat. It took times of 57.53 and 57.56 in those events, respectively, right on par with her 57.35 and 57.54 career bests. It took times of 23.83, 51.59, and 1:52.08 to earn a second swim in the sprint freestyle events.
According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Descent’s career bests would have ranked her fifth in the 100 fly, sixth in the 100 back, sixth in the 50 free, ninth in the 200 free, and 10th in the 100 free.
Descent joins Cami Schwartz and Ella Gotham in publicly committing to swim in Liberty’s class of 2030.
