Indiana Bolsters Class of 2029, Adds Brandon Fleck and David Kovacs for 2025

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The Indiana Hoosier men’s program bolster their incoming freshman class with two impactful additions in the form of Yardley, Pennsylvania’s Brandon Fleck, and local Bloomington talent David Kovacs.

Fleck nabbed a pair of titles in Providence at the March Speedo Sectionals (SCY) in 2024, taking home wins in the 100 freestyle (43.86,) and 200 free (1:36.73). He also added podium finishes in the 100 backstroke in 48.48 (2nd), and the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.46 (3rd), swimming to a lifetime best in both. Since that meet, Fleck has dropped new lifetime bests in the 100 free (43.73 back in February of this year) and 200 free (1:35.99 in May of this year).

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University! I want to thank my friends, family, and coaches for helping me throughout the process. Go Hoosiers!🔴⚪️

More recently, Fleck set multiple personal best marks at the Indiana State Senior Championships (LCM) this past June. He set new long course lifetime standards in the 50 free (23.36), 100 free (50.46), 200 free (1:50.65), 400 free (3:58.16), and 100 fly (55.41).

Brandon Fleck’s Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Free: 43.67
  • 200 Free: 1:35.99
  • 500 Free: 4:27.88
  • 100 Fly: 48.56
  • 100 Back: 48.48

Kovacs brought home two individual state tiles last season for Bloomington South High School at the 2025 ISHSAA Boys State Championships. He took home wins in the 100 back (47.63) and 200 IM (1:46.64), both of which doubled as his top performances all time in those events.

I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Indiana University! I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity and for my friends, family, and coaches for helping throughout my journey! Go Hoosiers!!🟥⬜️

Earlier this summer, Kovacs had a stellar outing at the NCSA Summer Championships (LCM), where he found the top of the podium on three occasions. Kovacs walked away with lifetime best times and event golds in the 50 back (26.08), 100 back (55.53), and 100 fly (53.99).

David Kovacs’ Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Back: 47.52
  • 200 Back: 1:44.28
  • 100 Fly: 47.66
  • 200 Fly: 1:46.35
  • 200 IM: 1:46.64
  • 400 IM: 3:53.23

The Hoosier men took home their 4th consecutive men’s Big Ten title last season. The addition of both Fleck and Kovacs adds scoring potential to the Indiana roster.

Based on Fleck’s best times, he would have qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 200 free (21st). His 100 free would have just missed a second swim opportunity by .19 seconds.

Kovacs’ lifetime bests would have translated to a trio of ‘C’ final swims in the 200 back (.07 off of a consolation final swim), 100 back (18th), and 200 fly (19th).

Indiana grows the freshman class for 2025, which includes Andrew Shackell, Noah Cakir, Lukas Paegle, Luke Ellis, and Josh Bey.
