Halfway through the meet, and Team USA has made a strong comeback from how they kicked off the World Junior Championships; they’ve gone from zero golds on day 1 to having six event victories under their belt and topping the medal table after day 3.
All five of the U.S.’s individual event wins so far have come from the girls’ side. Tonight’s finals session saw Audrey Derivaux pick up her second individual gold of the meet, as she prevailed in the 200 back while teammate Charlotte Crush claimed silver. Bringing home the next gold for the Americans was Rylee Erisman, who turned in a jaw-dropping performance in the 100 free as she broke the Championship Record for the third time this meet.
The U.S. picked up its first relay win of the meet in the mixed 4×100 relay, with the team of Mike Rice, Rowan Cox, Erisman and Lily King narrowly out-touching Great Britain for the gold by just .14.
Team USA currently sits solidly atop the medal table, with six golds and 12 total medals.
The only other team with a medal count in the double digits, the Neutral Athletes ‘B’ team sits just behind them with three golds and 10 total medals. They added two bronzes to their hardware collection on day 3, with Milana Stepanova taking 3rd in the girls’ 200 back and Grigorii Vekovishchev placing 3rd in the boys’ 800 free.
Turkey and Lithuania both won their first gold medals of the meet, as Kuzey Tuncelli of Turkey prevailed in the boys’ 800 free while Tajus Juska of Lithuania secured the victory in the boys’ 100 fly.
