U.S. Nationals Finalist Kiefer Roemer to Swim for Missouri State Starting This Fall (2025)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kiefer Roemer, a finalist at U.S. Nationals and a “Best of the Rest” breaststroker from our latest re-rank of the top recruits in the boys’ high school class of 2025, is set to compete for Missouri State University beginning in the fall of 2025.

Roemer first announced his verbal commitment to swim for the Bears back in September.

“l’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at MSU! Thank you to my coaches, friends, and family for helping and supporting me along the way! I can’t wait to be a bear!”

Roemer recently graduated from Bettendorf High School in Iowa, where he was a member of the varsity swimming and diving team all four years. He currently trains year-round with the Iowa Flyers Swim Club, specializing primarily in breaststroke, although he is also a strong competitor in free and fly.

At the U.S. National Championships (LCM) in June, Roemer earned a second swim in the 50 breast, placing 26th overall in a lifetime best time of 28.68. He also contested the 100 breast (1:05.14) and 200 breast (2:27.78).

Roemer raced at Junior Nationals (LCM) just a few weeks ago, where he competed in three events. He again earned a second swim in the 50 breast, placing 20th in 29.14. He also raced the 100 breast (1:04.83) and the 100 free (54.01).

At the IHSAA Boys State Championship (SCY) back in February, Roemer picked up his first state championship title, winning the 100 breast in a lifetime best of 53.92. He also placed 6th in the 100 fly (50.05) after setting a best time of 49.65 during prelims. Roemer helped his team to a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, anchoring with a time of 20.07, and a 5th-place finish in the 200 medley relay, splitting 24.63 on the breaststroke leg.

A few weeks later, Roemer posted a series of personal best times at the IASI Short Course Championships. He won the 100 breast (53.44) and 200 breast (1:57.39), setting new lifetime bests and hitting Juniors qualifying times in both. He also placed 2nd in the 200 IM (1:50.94), 3rd in the 50 free (20.78) and 100 fly (49.73), 4th in the 100 free (45.80) and 12th in the 100 back (52.10), clocking best times in all except the 100 fly.

Best Times SCY

  • 100 breast – 53.44
  • 200 breast – 1:57.39
  • 100 fly – 49.65
  • 200 IM – 1:50.94
  • 50 free – 20.78
  • 100 free – 45.80

A Division I Mid-Major program, Missouri State’s men’s swimming and diving team competes in the Missouri Valley Conference, with the Bears placing 3rd at the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Based on the results from this past season’s championships, Roemer would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 100 breast and 200 breast, with his top times placing him within the top three in both events. He also would have landed in the ‘B’ final in the 200 IM, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start.

Roemer is not the first in his family to become a Bear, as his older sister Samantha Roemer recently wrapped up her fifth year competing at Missouri State.

Joining Roemer in the pool this fall will be Anderson Brown (fly/IM), Kayden Hedrick (free/fly/IM), Zach Mendez (free/IM) and Peter Wendol (breast/IM), who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.

Is it just me, or is Missouri State on a roll right now? Did they get more scholarship money recently or something?

Kind of surprising based on the pool itself and their training environment. Understandable why Sammy’s brother would want to go there though as it’s known to the family.

Impressive class the Bears are putting together. But will they have the depth to take down Miami?
