Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Alex Nixon, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has committed to swim and study at the College of Holy Cross, beginning in the fall. Nixon trains year-round with the Cincinnati Marlins and attends Saint Xavier High School.
Nixon confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Holy Cross! I first want to thank my parents and sister for helping me strive to be my best self every day. I also want to thank my coaches Dave, Jim Brower, and Brandon for getting me to the point I am today! I also would like to thank my teammates from St. X and Marlins, as they believed in me and pushed me and helped me to get better. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Kristy for giving me this opportunity, and I am looking forward to life on the hill. Go Cross Go!
Nixon is a middle-distance specialist who excels in both butterfly events as well as the 100, 200, and 500 freestyles. His big meet of the 2024–25 high school season came at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division I State Championships, where he walked away as the runner-up in the 500 free with a personal best of 4:35.52, shattering his previous best of 4:39.58 by over four seconds and dropping nearly 13 seconds from the 4:48.37 he started the season with.
He also clocked 1:41.57 to take fourth in the 200 free, taking down his best time from earlier in the season by just over a second, a time he had brought down from the 1:45.25 he started the year with. Nixon ended the meet with a 46.14 split on Saint Xavier’s silver medal-winning 400 free relay.
The performances marked a massive shift from his showing in 2024, when he only qualified for the meet in the 200 free and settled for 32nd, adding nearly two seconds to his best with a time of 1:47.07.
Nixon’s best times in the butterfly events stem from in-season meets: he notched 1:54.20 to take second at the Southwest High School Classic in January and 52.21 for 30th at the MAKO Senior meet in February. His improvement curve in fly has been almost as stark as in freestyle, as he started the season with lifetime bests of 54.14 and 1:57.68.
Over the summer, Nixon qualified for and competed at the Junior National Championships, where he touched 86th in the 200 fly (2:07.11), just over two seconds shy of his career best, and helped the Marlins’ relays by splitting 23.65 on the fifth-place 200 free relay and logging 1:57.57 on the 800 free relay that took 25th.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Butterfly: 52.21
- 200 Butterfly: 1:54.20
- 100 Freestyle: 47.63
- 200 Freestyle: 1:41.43
- 500 Freestyle: 4:35.47
The Holy Cross men, led by coach Kristy Jones, finished eighth out of ten teams at the 2025 Patriot League Championships. At that meet, which featured A, B, and C finals, it took times of 45.64, 1:41.15, and 4:34.65 to reach scoring range in the freestyle events, while the butterfly cuts stood at 50.19 and 1:50.95. Nixon’s best scoring opportunities, on paper, appear to be the 200 and 500 free, and with another season to develop before arriving on campus, he looks poised to make an immediate impact.
On the team’s 2024–25 depth chart, Nixon would have ranked second in the 500 free, third in the 200 free, fourth in the 200 fly, sixth in the 100 fly, and seventh in the 100 free. Junior Jack Greiner led the way in the 100–500 free with times of 45.98, 1:38.81, and 4:29.27, while junior Alex Michael was the team’s top butterflier with marks of 49.54 and 1:50.54.
Nixon is set to join Nate Dorsch, Lukas Iannone, Connor Holland, David Ivory, and Ryan Loveless in Holy Cross’ men’s swimming recruiting class of 2030.
