After racing in Irvine at the US Summer Championships in Irvine, California, Caeleb Dressel spoke candidly with SwimSwam about the year he has had. Coming off the Paris Olympics, Dressel expressed he wanted to enjoy swimming again and repair his relationship with the water, taking this year to only do things he wanted to in the pool and weight room (in his words, ‘gathering his notes’).

The Olympic champion also expressed a big desire to get back to his top form, saying his body feels ready for more and now, hopefully, his mind does as well.

What a great man, he deserves the best. A brilliant, humble interview. He needs swimming and swimming needs him. Hope he gets the programme that meets his needs and can push him to where he deserves to be. Maximum respect to this guy and the interviewer who elicited such an honest and interesting conversation.

6 to 10 Kms a day for a sprinter is nonsense overtraining and he will be back to the doctor again.
