Tessa Hurguy, 14, Brainbridge Island Swim Club (PN): Hurguy was on fire at the Pacific Northwest Senior Championships in late July, winning five events in the girls’ 13-14 age group while setting new best times in all seven events she raced. Highlighting her performance was the 400 IM, where she dropped more than five seconds in the prelims to clock 4:58.94, ranking her 11th this season in the girls’ 13-14 age group. She went on to place 2nd in the final in 5:02.42. Hurguy also moved to 28th this season in the 200 breast (2:38.91), 43rd in the 1500 free (17:47.84) and 49th in the 400 free (4:30.42) among 13-14 girls, and added victories in the 800 free (9:22.33) and 100 breast (1:14.61).
Reed Spaulding, 12, Cincinnati Marlins (OH): Spaulding set personal bests in all six events he raced at the Ohio Long Course Junior Championships in July, claiming the High Point Award for 11-12 boys. He did so in record-breaking fashion, taking down Grant House‘s Cincinnati Marlins’ club record (2:30.04) for 11-12 boys in the 200 fly in a time of 2:24.28 to rank 7th this season in the age group. Spaulding then lowered Carson Foster‘s club record in the 100 fly, clocking 1:03.21 to lower Foster’s mark of 1:03.40 and move into 11th this season in the 11-12 age group. Spaulding also set lifetime bests in the 100 free (58.44), 200 free (2:09.61), 400 free (4:43.87) and 50 fly (28.67).
Kate Allen, 13, Carmel Swim Club (IN): Allen picked up six victories at the Indiana Age Group Championships at the end of July, climbing up the all-time rankings in the girls’ 11-12 age group—note that Allen turned 13 after the meet concluded. She moved into the top 10 all-time in both the 100 free (58.31) and 200 IM (2:21.01), now ranking 8th in both, while she also cracked the top 20 in the 200 free (2:06.13), now sitting in 17th. Allen also ranks tied for 36th all-time in the 50 free (27.13), 43rd in the 400 free (4:28.56) and tied for 58th in the 50 fly (29.12).
Joey Eaddy, 14, Revolution Aquatic Club (NE): Eaddy put on a very impressive performance at U.S. Junior Nationals last week in Irvine, headlined by his swim in the 400 free. The Revolution Aquatic Club product lowered his week-old best time of 4:02.46 in 4:01.25 to rank 13th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group and 1st this season. One week earlier at the Futures Championships in Madison, he set new best times in the 800 free (8:15.28) and 1500 free (15:49.23), launching him up to 4th and 14th, respectively, all-time in the 13-14 age group. He raced the 800 free again at Junior Nats, placing 21st in 8:15.83.
Ellie Sungy, 10, Front Range Barracudas (CO): Sungy established six personal bests en route to sweeping her events at the CSI Age Group Championships in late July at the U.S. Air Force Academy, moving up the all-time rankings in the girls 10 & under age group in three of them. The Front Range Barracudas swimmer clocked 37.56 in the 50 breast to rank 43rd in age group history, while she also now sits 51st in the 100 back (1:13.42) and 57th in the 50 back (34.08). She added best times in the 100 breast (1:23.78), 50 fly (32.84) and 100 fly (1:14.24).
Gabriel Brown, 10, Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (IN): Brown incredibly climbed the top 50 all-time rankings in the boys’ 10 & under age group at the ISI LC Age Group Championships at the end of July, done prior to his 10th birthday (which has recently passed, according to USA Swimming’s database). Brown rockets up to #12 all-time in the 200 IM (2:35.03), 18th in the 100 back (1:12.09), 19th in the 200 free (2:16.77), 34th in the 100 fly (1:10.33) and 50th in the 100 free (1:04.29) among 10 & under boys. He also clocked 4:54.47 to rank 69th all-time in the age group in the 400 free.
