Charlie Cancelmo now has the fastest time among 15-year-old boys this season in the 200 butterfly.
Swimming for Seattle Metropolitan Club at the Pacific Northwest Senior Championships, Cancelmo clocked a personal best time of 1:59.53 in the 200 fly to win the event. His previous best was 2:02.13. Cancelmo was especially fast in the first 50 meters, clocking a split of 26.70. His other splits were 30.08, 30.84 and 31.91.
The finishing time is not only the fastest among 15-year-old boys, but the second-fastest in the 15-16 age group.
Cancelmo also won the 100 fly in a personal best time of 53.78 and the 200 IM in a time of 2:08.30. He swam a personal best time of 1:52.45 to finish 2nd in the 200 freestyle.
His performance was a big reason why Seattle Metropolitan Swim Club won the boys’ team event. The Bellevue Club Swim Team won the combined and girls’ team titles.
Other individual standouts were:
- Another 15-year-old in the boys’ competition, Syunta Lee of West Coast Aquatics, won the 200 free (1:52.43), 400 free (3:58.91) and 1500 free (15:52.64) in personal best times. Lee also won the 400 IM (4:28.93) and took 2nd in the 200 back with a personal best time of 2:04.56. In the 15-16 age group this season, Lee has the ninth-fastest time in the 1500 free, the 10th-fastest time in the 400 free and the 14th-fastest time in the 200 free.
- In the girls’ competition, North Carolina commit Kamryn Meskill of Bellevue Club Swim Team won the 50 free (25.97), the 100 free (personal best 56.74) and the 50 breast (33.49). Among 18-year-old girls this season, she has the fifth-fastest time in the 50 free.
- Hayes Feng, a 13-year-old from Olympic Cascade Aquatics, won the boys’ 100 breast (1:08.32), the 200 breast (2:31.90) and the 400 IM (4:54.87) in personal best times, while also taking the 50 breast (31.72). Feng also finished 2nd in the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:18.30. Among 13-year-old boys this season, Feng has the third-fastest time in the 100 breast and the 10th-fastest in the 200 IM.
- Brooklyn Lang, a 13-year-old from Bellevue Club Swim Team, swam personal best times in the girls’ event to win the 50 free (26.91) and 200 IM (2:25.85). Among 13-year-old girls this season, Lang has the sixth-fastest time in the 50 free.
