Seattle Metropolitan Aquatics’ Charlie Cancelmo, 15, headlined the Pacific Northwest Senior Championships with two swims that now place in the top 25 all-time in the boys’ 15-16 age group.

In the men’s 100 butterfly, Cancelmo touched in 53.78, taking the win by over two seconds and making him the 24th fastest performer of all time in the 15-16 age group. Cancelmo lowered his lifetime best by .21 seconds from just over two months earlier.

In the 200 fly, Cancelmo saw similar success, finishing over six seconds ahead of the field, dropping down to 1:59.53, almost three seconds better than his top mark of 2:02.13 from late June, slotting him as the 23rd fastest performer in NAG history for the 15-16 age group.

Cancelmo hit a multitude of personal bests at these championships, shaving off over a second to win the 200 IM in 2:08.30 (previous best was 2:09.46). He narrowly finished 2nd in the men’s 200 free in 1:52.45 behind West Coast Aquatics’ Syunta Lee at 1:52.43. Cancelmo dropped over a second and a half from his previous best coming into the meet of 1:54.03, while Lee took down his lifetime mark of 1:53.94 from a time trial at the 2024 Summer Championship.

Lee found success elsewhere as well, in the men’s 200 backstroke. His previous best of 2:06.99 stood no chance against his performance here, where his final time of 2:04.56 topped the field, setting a new lifetime best in the process.

Thirteen-year-old Hayes Feng of Olympic Cascade Aquatics took home the men’s 13-14 100 breaststroke title in 1:08.32, a big time improvement from just over three weeks prior, where he touched in 1:09.06.

Pacific Dragons Swim Team’s Cedric Chen, 13, swam to a pair of wins in the men’s 13-14 100 fly (1:00.08) and men’s 13-14 200 fly (2:14.61). His 100 fly was over a second quicker than his best coming into Federal Way of 1:01.18, while his 200 fly was over three seconds faster than his former best of 2:17.62 set just over a month prior.

Other Notable Performances:

  • Bellevue Swim Club’s Jacob Lee, 16, threw down the top time in the 100 breast in 1:04.46, crushing his all-time best performance of 1:06.72 before the meet.
  • Owen Stauffer, 16, of the Issaquah Swim Team, blew away his best time of 57.16 in the men’s 100 backstroke with a final time of 56.85 to win the event.
