Parker Efird of Dads Club Swim Team turned in a top performance in the 200 back at the 2025 Austin Sectionals last weekend, winning the event in a lifetime best time of 2:04.19.

The 17-year-old’s performance knocked 1.69 off of his previous time (2:05.88) and landed him at #27 on the ranking of this season’s top times in the country in the boys’ 17-18 age group.

Efird was the #4 seed in the 200 back coming into the meet before throwing down a stellar swim during finals to bring home the championship title in the event.

“I felt ready to race, I knew going into this race I’d be racing big names like Aaron Gordon and Asher Good [and] it’d be a hard race,” Efird said. “My favorite thing about swimming is racing though, and I like to win even more. I was surprised at the result, but excited more than anything seeing my team and friends cheer me on after my win.”

Efird was out quick in 28.57 on the opening 50, going on to split 59.65 at the halfway mark which made him the only competitor in the field to go under 1:00 on the first 100. He managed to hold on through the second half, coming home in 1:04.54 to stay just ahead of runner-up Gordon despite him splitting 1:04.16 on the back half.

Commenting on his thought process throughout the race, Efird said “I knew that final stretch was where I’d catch them, and was ready to drop the hammer that last lap.”

A member of the class of 2027, Efird’s performance in Austin marks the fastest time this season in his class in the state of Texas.

Efird will next race at NCSAs in Huntsville, Alabama at the end of July.
