For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ukrainian sprint freestyler Nikita Sheremet has announced his verbal commitment to join head coach Arthur Albiero and the University of Louisville beginning in the fall of 2025.
Sheremet captured silver in the boys’ 50 freestyle at the 2025 European Junior Championships, stopping the clock in a personal best time of 22.17, dropping nearly three-tenths from his previous best of 22.46. His performance marked Ukraine’s first medal of the meet in Šamorín, Slovakia.
Sherement also holds best times of 21.55 in the SCM 50 free, 48.23 in the SCM 100 free (SCM), and 50.27 in the LCM 100 free.
Best times converted to SCY:
| Event | Time |
Converted Time (SCY)
|
| 50 Free (SCM) | 21.55 | 19.41 |
| 50 Free (LCM) | 22.17 | 19.25 |
| 100 Free (SCM) | 48.23 | 43.45 |
| 100 Free (LCM) | 50.27 | 43.84 |
His 50 free best time in long course converts to 19.25 in short course yards, a mark that would have placed 12th and immediately in scoring contention at the ACC Championships. With that conversion, Sheremet would have been the 3rd fastest time on the Louisville roster last season, putting his name in the conversation for sprint freestyle relays.
With the addition of Sheremet, Louisville continues to strengthen its sprint group. He’ll join a sprint core that includes Yassin Abdelghany, Guy Brooks, Rian Graham, and Charlie Crush, helping fill the void left by the graduation of Dalton Lowe.
Louisville finished 5th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships and 14th at the 2025 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Sheremet becomes the latest addition to a deep 2025 recruiting class for the Cardinals, which also includes Ryan Henderson, Owen Stevens, Nate Thomas, Ryder Hicks, Gavin Sheyda, Szymon Misiak, and Finnley Conklin.
This Louisville class covers all bases, with two of the three individual men’s scorers from NCAAs gone in Denis Petrashov and Tommy Bried (other NCAA scorer Jake Eccleston will be returning as a sophomore). The class covers plenty of areas, with plenty of potential, with sprinters like Sheremet and Henderson, depth to their backstroke with Thomas and Stevens, a touch of distance with Sheyda, Misiak covering butterfly, rounding out with Conklin and Hicks as potential Petrashov replacements in the breaststroke.

Very nice pickup for Louisville. This kid has some pure speed! Could be a ncaa finals contender in a year or two
