Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 7/5/2025

Lexi Cronin, 12, The Spartans of La Canada (CA): Cronin was on fire at last month’s Southern California June Age Group Championships (LCM) in Irvine, setting lifetime bests in all seven events she contested and walking away with wins in five of them. Cronin clocked 2:12.22 in the 200 free to rank 3rd this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group, while she moves to 7th this season in the 100 free (1:00.92), 12th in the 100 back (1:10.13), 14th in the 400 free (4:43.94) and tied for 19th in the 50 free (28.51).

Beau Fowler, 11, Sporting Jax Aquatic Club (FL): Fowler set new best times in every event he raced at the PSA Summer Championship (LCM) in Ponte Vedra, Florida, highlighted by his swims in the distance freestyles. Fowler clocked 9:44.83 in the 800 free and 19:02.95 in the 1500 free, both ranking him 1st this season among 11-year-old boys. He also moves to 4th this season in the 200 back (2:33.98), 5th in the 400 free (4:47.44) and tied for 6th in the 200 free (2:16.70) while adding best times in the 100 back (1:13.02) and 200 IM (2:43.98).

Vanessa Delev, 11, Badger Swim Club (MR): Delev set new PBs in all six events she raced at the CPAC June Invitational (LCM), highlighted by what she did in the 200 fly. In what was her first time racing the event in long course meters, Delev clocked 2:30.89 to rank her 4th this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group despite being on the younger side of the age group. She sits 1st among 11-year-olds by well over a second. The Badger Swim Club product added PBs in the 50 free (28.47), 400 free (4:41.94), 50 back (33.51), 200 breast (3:01.34), 50 fly (30.01) and 100 fly (1:07.80), with her times in the 50 free, 400 free and 50 fly also ranking 1st this season among 11-year-olds.

Matthew Cuadros, 14, Center Grove Aquatic Club (IN): Cuadros dropped from 1:08.03 to 1:06.62 in the 100 breast at the CGAC Mid Summer Spectacular (LCM) in Greenwood, Indiana, moving him up to 80th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group and 9th this season. He also went 30.33 in the 50 breast to rank 7th this season, and added best times in the 50 free (25.14), 100 free (55.12), 200 free (2:01.80), 100 fly (1:00.03) and 200 IM (2:18.51).

Shelby Hutchinson, 14, South Jersey Aquatic Club (MA): Hutchinson made some noise in the backstroke events at the Jersey Wahoos’ Summer Solstice (LCM) meet in Sewell, New Jersey, firing off a time of 1:01.85 in the 100 back to rank 21st all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and #1 this season. Coming into the meet, her best time stood at 1:02.95. The South Jersey Aquatic Club product also took off nearly three seconds in the 200 back, getting down to 2:17.35 to rank 3rd in the 13-14 age group this season. She also set lifetime bests in the 50 free (27.18), 100 free (59.11), 200 free (2:13.99) and 100 fly (1:01.61), the latter of which ranks 3rd in the age group this season.

Jack Maddan, 15, First Colony Swim Team (GU): Maddan set lifetime bests across the board at the FCST Summer Splash in Houston, headlined by his breaststroke performances. In the 200 breast, Maddan dropped five seconds to clock 2:18.23, ranking him 3rd this season among 15-year-old boys, while in the 100 breast, his time of 1:05.02 lowered his previous best of 1:06.27 (not including a 1:05.53 prelim swim) and ranks him 7th this season among 15-year-olds. The First Colony Swim Team member also set bests in the 200 back (2:12.47), 100 fly (59.46), 200 fly (2:12.58), 200 IM (2:09.96) and 400 IM (4:34.54).
