Preliminaries of the final day at YMCA Nationals wrapped up this morning, with Meghan Small and the York YMCA girls finishing off the session with two straight top seeds including a 1-2 punch in the 200 IM.

In the girls 200 fly, 16-year-old Astrid Swensen rose from the third seed, passing some big names en route to the top seed at 1:59.10. Greater Flint’s Courtney Weaver sits second at 1:59.46 and Emily Slabe is 2:00.35. This seems like a race where the final should be much faster than the preliminaries, though, as Weaver and top incoming seed Remedy Rule were well off their seed times and should have room to work at night.
Upper MainLine’s Ben Creekmore is the number-1 boys seed in the 200 fly. He went 1:48.81. 400 IM champ Maxwell Dolan joined him under 1:50, going 1:49.27, and Justice Kramer sits third at 1:49.51.
Schroeder’s Alexandra Meyers leads the girls 100 free. The 18-year-old went 50.19 to top Middle Tyger’s Katrina Konopka by just .03.Those two will duel in the middle of the pool at night, with Adriana Grabski sitting just .04 back of Konopka.
Zachary Molloy, who won the 200 free for Ocean County of New Jersey, took the top seed in the boys 100 free. He went 44.57, with Somerset Valley’s Brad Zdroik second in 44.74. The 200 champ will battle with the 50 free winner Ryan Held in the final – Held went 45.20, but entered the meet with the top seed of 43.73, just a few tenths off the YMCA national record.
Top-seeded Meghan Small rolled to the top spot in prelims of the 200 IM. The York YMCA 15-year-old continued a great championships run with a 2:00.43 that will likely be much faster at night for the 2013 champ and Y National record-holder. Her teammate Niki Price sits second at 2:01.86, tied with Sophie Cattermole for that seed.
Triangle Area’s Colin Ellington went 1:50.18 to win preliminaries of the 200 IM. The 17-year-old NC State commit came in with the top seed by almost two seconds, but comes into the final just .2 ahead of 100 breast champion Conner McHugh, a University of Minnesota signee. McHugh went 1:50.39, and Sean Workman is third in 1:50.44.
A good session for the York girls ended with the top seed in the 400 free relay. Meghan Small anchored in 50.42, and 14-year-old Courtney Harnish split 50.33 to help York go 3:24.19. Second is Middle Tyger at 3:25.24, that thanks to a 50.20 from Katrina Konopka. Somerset Hills took the third seed with a 3:26.04.
Triangle Area took the top seed in the boys relay, but not by much. They went 3:03.67 with a 45.48 split from Chris Kohut, but Cheshire YMCA sits just .05 back at 3:03.72. Cheshire made a run on anchor Joseph Shepley‘s 44.90 split. Wilton YMCA is third at 3:04.52.
