Breaststroke & Freestyle Specialist Cheyenne Borroughs Commits To University Of Iowa (2026)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Cheyenne Borroughs has committed to continuing both her academic and swimming journey at the University of Iowa. The breaststroke and freestyle specialist hails from Wisconsin, where she swims year-round with the Verona Area Swim Team and competes for Stoughton High School.

I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming careers at the University of Iowa! I would like to sincerely thank my family for guiding me through this process, all of my coaches and teammates at Stoughton and VAST, and lastly the amazing coaching staff at Iowa for granting me this opportunity. GO HAWKS!!

Borroughs qualified and competed at the 2024 Winter Junior Championships — West in three events, with her highest finish coming in the 100 breast, where she finished 67th with a time of 1:04.52. She was 86th in the 200 breast as well, clocking 2:22.43, in addition to notching a 107th-place showing in the 50 free with a best time of 23.74.

She recently wrapped up her short course season at the NCSA Spring Championship in Orlando, Florida, where she posted a new best time of 1:03.14 for 14th. She also produced a 13th-place finish in the 200 breast, recording a season-best effort of 2:16.10. Her 200 breast best time of 2:15.98 comes from the Wisconsin Short Course Senior Championships in February 2024, where she earned bronze in the final. Additionally, in the 50 breast, which is not contested as an individual event at the collegiate level, she swam a best time of 28.74, which earned her 6th.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 Breaststroke: 1:03.14
  • 200 Breaststroke: 2:15.98
  • 50 Freestyle: 23.74
  • 100 Freestyle: 51.75

Borroughs would have ranked 2nd on the Hawkeyes’ depth chart for the 2024-25 season in both the 100 and 200 breast events. Purdue’s top breaststroker this past season was sophomore Olivia Swalley, who led the team in both events with times of 1:01.32 and 2:12.42.

Furthermore, Borroughs would have situated herself 4th in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 free for last season, where Rachel Dildine was Iowa’s top performer with times of 22.86 and 49.90, respectively.

The Iowa Hawkeyes finished 14th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. The team is led by head coach Nathan Mundt, who took over the position after the women’s program was reinstated in 2021.

Borroughs joins Yaya Nieckula, Klare Pilger, and Addison Carlile in the Hawkeye’s incoming class for the fall of 2026.
