Final Entries For NSW State Open Confirm Kaylee McKeown’s Return

2025 NSW STATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The final entry list for the 2025 New South Wales State Open Championships have been published and both the men’s and women’s fields look to remain in tact from the preliminary entry list.

That means we indeed are expected to see multi-Olympic champion Kaylee McKeown race in her first meet since pulling out of last year’s World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series to tend to her mental health.

As a refresher, McKeown is entered in the 100m free, 50m/100m/200m back and 200m IM events for this competition which begins on Friday, March 21st.

While Olympians Emma McKeon, Emily Seebohm, Brianna Throssell, Madi Wilson and Cate Campbell revealed their decisions to retire since last year’s Olympics, Australia is rife with emerging talent ready to carry on the torch.

One such swimmer to watch this week is 18-year-old Olivia Wunsch. The Carlile ace is scheduled to take on a packed schedule this week including the 50m/100m/200m free, 50m/100m fly, women’s medley and free relays as well as the mixed medley relay.

Wunsch has already put her talent on display this year, having competed at the South Australian Championships in January and the Victorian Championships in February. The teen earned 5 golds across the competitions, including the 50m free and 100m free at each meet and an additional 200m free gold at the Vic Open.

Her performances inserted her into the season’s world rankings at 10th in the 100m free (54.16) and 16th in the 50m free (25.15).

The NSW Championships represent an important stepping stone for Wunsch and all contestants on the path for June’s World Championships Trials.
