2025 SPANISH SPRING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Spanish Spring Championships kicked off today, Wednesday, March 5th, with swimmers diving in for in-season results a few months ahead of this year’s World Championsips.

The 5-day competition represents an important stepping stone on the way to the Spanish World Championship Trials on the agenda for June.

Right off the bat, Sergio De Celis Montalban got it done for gold in the men’s 50m fly, registering a time of 23.78 to take the gold.

Montalban’s effort eked out the win ahead of Teo Del Rieego Torres who settled for silver in 23.91 while Alberto Lozano Mateos rounded out the podium in 23.94.

Montalban’s result this evening registered a new personal best, shaving .19 off his previous PB of 23.97, which was recorded in December 2021.

The women’s 50m back saw Mireia Pradell Carrasco beat the field in a gold medal-worthy result of 28.61.

That held a slight advantage over runner-up Sara Costa De Vicente‘s outing of 28.84 as Portugal’s Rafaela Gomes Azevedo bagged the bronze in 28.85.

The women’s and men’s 400m free wrapped up tonight’s session with Carla Carron Muina earning the women’s victory while Carlos Garach Benito claimed men’s gold.

Muina touched in a time of 4:12.13 to get to the wall a fingernail ahead of Belgium’s Sarah Dumont who snagged silver in 4:12.27.

As for Benito, the Spaniard topped the podium in 3:47.69 as the sole competitor of the field to delve under the 3:50 barrier.

Additional Notes

  • Alba Guillamon Novo topped the women’s 50m fly podium in a time of 26.89, the sole outing of the field under the 28-second barrier.
  • Emma Carrasco Cadens grabbed gold in the women’s 200m breast, putting up a time of 2:28.12 to narrowly defeat Aina Fernandez Gonzalez who was also sub-2:30 in a time of 2:28.46.
  • The men’s 200m breast saw Alex Castejon Ramirez beat the pack with a time of 2:12.83.
  • Juan Saravia Pelaez earned gold in the men’s 50m back in 25.07.
