Bozeman Boys Repeat, Great Falls Girls Return To Top At Montana AA Meet

Two programs that have enjoyed recent success found the top of the podium once again at the Montana AA state swim meet last month.

The Great Falls girls team won its third title in four years, while the Bozeman boys team repeated as state champion.

GIRLS’ RECAP

Two individual standouts were Big Sky junior Elly Lewis and Belgrade sophomore Dylon Flikkema.

Lewis won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:54.25 and later won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:11.11.

Flikkema became the first Belgrade swimmer to win an individual state title when she captured the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.99. She later won the 100 backstroke in a time of 55.93.

Great Falls won the 200 medley (1:50.36) and 400 freestyle relays (3:40.69), while Sentinel captured the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.66).

Other individual winners were:

  • Sentinel senior and Cal State East Bay signee Adalynn Ascher won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.84.
  • Capital sophomore Elizabeth Urban won the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.47.
  • Glacier senior Olivia Gibbons won the 100 freestyle in a time of 53.06.
  • CM Russell senior and Colorado Mesa signee Georgia Hatzenbeller won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.12.

BOYS’ RECAP

Two individuals each won two events and both were from Bozeman, junior Cal McColley and sophomore Max Aguirre.

McColley won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:42.44 and the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.71. Aguirre won the 100 butterfly in a time of 50.90 and the 100 breaststroke in a time of 58.04.

Bozeman won the 200 freestyle (1:28.83) and 400 freestyle relays (3:12.90), while Gallatin won the 200 medley relay (1:39.12).

Other individual winners were:

  • West senior Tyler Zarbock won the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.18.
  • Capital senior Isaac Urban won the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.50.
  • Syler Pizzolato, a senior from Senior High, won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:42.45.
  • Great Falls sophomore Seth Woldtvedt won the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.84.
