Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Freestyle and backstroke specialist Carter Wright has committed to swim for the University of Alabama in the fall of 2026. Wright is currently a junior at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and trains with the Bolles School Sharks.
Wright was a two-time champion at the 2024 FHSAA Class 2A State Championship (SCY), representing Bishop Kenny High School. He claimed 1st place in the 50 free (20.78) and the 100 back (48.12), both of which remain his lifetime bests.
He was also the 100 back champion at the 2023 FHSAA Class 2A State Championship, posting a time of 49.17. Additionally, he finished as the runner-up in the 50 free (20.93). The year prior, as a freshman, Wright placed 2nd in the 100 back (51.27) and 11th in the 100 fly (52.57) at the championship.
Classifications are based on school enrollment. Florida’s Class 2A is one step above Class 1A, which includes some of the smallest schools in the state.
More recently, Wright posted personal bests in yards at the 2024 Speedo Winter Junior Championship East in December. He raced the 100 free (45.30) and 200 free (1:39.99), both of which were personal bests and qualified him for the 2025 Futures Championship in Ocala. Wright also led off his 400 medley relay team with a 100 back best time of 48.19, which also qualified for the Futures Championship. His relay team placed 2nd at the meet with a time of 3:10.12.
Earlier in the year, at the 2024 Florida Spring Senior Championships (SCY) in March, Wright earned a personal best in the 200 back during prelims (1:54.88), securing him a second swim. In finals, he posted a time of 1:55.17. He also raced in several other events, making it to the finals in the 50 free (21.00), 100 free (46.18), 200 free (1:41.46), and 100 back (49.24).

Alabama’s men’s team placed 6th at the 2025 SEC Championships, improving from their 7th-place finish the previous year. Eric Stelmar, who graduated, was the fastest 100 backstroker (46.28) for Alabama last season, finishing 18th overall at the 2024 SEC Championships.
This season, sophomore Tommy Hagar currently holds the fastest 100 back time (45.70). With another year to continue improving, Wright could further strengthen Alabama’s backstroke group with his 100 back time of 48.12. Additionally, his fastest 50 back split of 22.51 could be valuable for the 200 medley relay.
Wright will join swimmers Gunnar Hansen, Zach Parent, Alex Parent, Jack Grimley, and Bogdan Zverev, who also has a strong 100 back time of 49.85, in arriving at the University of Alabama in the fall of 2026.
