STOCKTON, Calif. – Celebrating 15 seniors throughout the meet, the Pacific swimming program soared to a dazzling double win over Simon Fraser on Senior Day Sunday at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
The Tigers’ men’s team (5-2) earned a 186-76 victory while the women’s squad (6-4) secured a 149-111 victory over the Red Leafs, marking winning seasons on both sides for the first time under head coach Katelyne Herrington‘s leadership since the 2019-2020 season.
“To be able to win their last dual meet at home is a pretty special memory for all of them,” Herrington said. “I’m really proud of the seniors. This class has made such an impact on me since I’ve been head coach at Pacific and has really helped develop the program to where it is today. The double win truly signifies the culture and the desire for us to be that winning team that we’ve been talking about since the beginning of the year.”
The Tigers notched 21 first place finishes throughout the afternoon, starting and capping the meet strong with first place finishes in both medley relays and both 400 yard free relays.
On a day highlighted by the seniors, they stepped up in the pool, securing a large number of points for Pacific. Senior Mitchell Hopper was a beam of light, winning in four events in the men’s 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard IM.
Senior Leland Baltazar was a key member in the men’s 200 yard medley relay while also earning first place individually in the 100 yard backstroke and 50 yard freestyle.
On the women’s side, senior Paige Sondgeroth collected a pair of first-place nods in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke. Sondgeroth also swam one of the legs in the 200 yard medley relay where Pacific clocked the top time in that event.
Picking up where she left off yesterday against UC Davis, senior Kelly Kermoian secured a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke and 200 yard IM.
Senior Emma Hooper found her groove as well today, notching a first place finish in the women’s 200 yard butterfly. Freshman Javier Lopez Guillen continued his dominance in the men’s 200 yard butterfly, claiming the top spot in the event with a time of 1:46.73.
The Tigers looks to rest, recover and prepare for MPSF championships in three weeks in St. George, Utah.
“I get more excited every week for conferences,” Herrington said. “To see how fast we were and still going best times today makes me very excited for what’s to come.”
