If I have well understood, Gregg Troy said that the Georgia women’s team was the best team in the nation and was a lot deeper than Cal.
I know a few Georgia crazy fans on swimswam who must be very happy to hear that. 😉
LOL – bobo, in American sports, and especially swimming, whenever you hear a coach say something like that, ALWAYS consider an ulterior motive.
You hear stories all the time of coaches who, back when the swimming top-25 rankings were voted on by all coaches, would intentionally undervote their teams. One reason is because then they can go to their clueless AD’s and say things like “look, they were the best team in the country, and we competed with them even though we were only expected to be #20.”
It’s all a game…:-). He may mean it, but he may not. You never know.
Ok. It’s also the same in the rugby French championship. The coaches say very often that the opponents are impressive and will be tough to beat. It’s a classic game in the media before a match.
But in that case, he looked very serious. I don’t know. Or he’s a very good actor. 🙂
AD’s? Can you translate please?
bobo – Athletic Directors. The guys in charge of a school’s athletics programs.
I think UGA is better too.
Some coaches might under vote their own teams, but generally it’s because they don’t think their teams are that good at that time (like a Florida). I also find it hard to believe that coaches like Troy are too worried that their ADs might be thinking they were beaten by the #1 team in the country.
