Shaine Casas got in some scy racing this past weekend, swimming exhibition with the other Texas pros and competing in the 50 Free (19.13), 400 IM (3:34.09), and 100 Fly (44.44). His 400 IM broke the pool record held by his training partner Rex Maurer (3:34.19), who just set it in November.
Casas also discusses looking ahead to the next couple months without any real competitions in sight. The 2024 Olympian is focused on preparing for the long course season, which means being consistent with training and taking things one day at a time.
Maturity looks good on Shaine. This is an excellent interview. I have followed him since his HS days in South Texas and hope he has his head wrapped around how very talented he is!!!
I think the categories in which he has the most potential are 200 im and 100 back, I hope he can perform well this year and be able to compete in several and even freestyle relays.
do we think shaine will be swimming every day of trials or keep a more tailored schedule?
if the former, id assume hed swim: 100fr, 200bk, 100fl, 100bk, 200im (picking 200bk over 200 fr and 100fl over 50bk to avoid doubles at trials — but maybe hell pick the 200 fr avoid the 200bk / 200im double at worlds)
but given how paired back his wc schedule was maybe hell opt for a more tailored schedule?
tbh feel like his best schedule would be 200im, 100bk and basically every relay
Aerobic Casas is scary
Funny how the narrative changed around Casas when he went to Texas. The same people clowning him are now glazing him up in these comments
Good as he was at SC Worlds I’m still faintly sceptical about his “reform” until he proves himself in a big LCM competition that’s not Trials.
Hey I’ll eat crow. I thought he was done for and I cannot be happier the dude is crushing it again! I’m loving being wrong on this one
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s not “funny” that the narrative changed when he started swimming better. That is exactly how it works.
yes, it is funny
If you were around at all before he arrived at Texas, you heard about missed workouts and little vacations. I didn’t hear that he didn’t work hard, but sometimes he wasn’t there to work. That was always the cause of any frustration I heard about him. I’ve always been a fan, and I love seeing the results of the hard work he’s putting in now. He’s what, four years older than he was when he went to Texas? You can do a lot of growing up in that time.
He’s a well spoken guy and a great role model for the youth.
That first pro swim in early March will be fun to watch
Really nice to see him doing interviews.. he has always seemed very uncomfortable with himself and the media, and it’s great to see him look happier.
