RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University dive team hosted the annual Lancer Dive Invite, a three-day event at RCC’s Riverside Aquatics Complex. Each day saw the competitors taking on one of the three separate events, with as many as 18 finalists in each event. Joining CBU this year were teams from San Diego State, Northern Arizona, San Diego, Chapman, CSU Bakersfield, Colorado State, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Audrey Thordarson-Wehner began things on a high note for CBU on day one, taking third in the women’s 3-meter event with a score of 287.85. Friday saw Audrey Easter step up for the women, taking second in the platform event by posting a score of 240.05 in the finals. Closing out the weekend best for the women was Thordarson-Wehner again, claiming CBU’s highest finish with a sixth-place finish in the 1-meter event with a score of 263.45.
The men were hot to start as they swept the podium during Thursday’s 1-meter final, led by Gael Jimenez (393.50), followed by Mario Del Valle (366.60), and with Nate Warson (259.65) rounding out the top three. Del Valle improved his placement on Friday, claiming the top spot in the men’s 3-meter event with a score of 347.20, with John Angelovic falling not far behind him in second place with a score of 328.75. CBU was the only school to participate in the men’s platform event on Saturday, finishing Del Valle, Angelovic, and Warson to close out the weekend.
Next on the schedule for the dive squad is a dual against Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon on January 18 in Phoenix.
