LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team won both meets as part of a tri-match Saturday afternoon, defeating Siena 171-125, and Sacred Heart 162-137. The Broncs improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Saints are now 3-6 and the Pioneers are now 5-4.

The Bronc women won nine events in the meet.

Rider started the day with a win in the 200-medley relay. Casey Morgan (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Allison Stewart (Newtown Square, PA/Lower Merion), Hannah Yemec (Bluffton, SC/May River), and Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) stopped the clock at 1:48.73, winning by over a full second.

Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) and Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) then finished one-two in the 1,000-free, touching the wall at 10:35.86 and 11:07.97. McLaughlin also swam 5:12.47 to win the 500-free, then 4:38.58 for a winning swim in the 400-IM.

Rider had another strong finish in the 100-back with Morgan and Jenna Kirby (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) swimming 57.98 and 59.80 for the one-two finish. Morgan completed the backstroke sweep winning the 200- in 2:08.00.

Stewart got an individual win in the 100-breast, stopping the clock at 1:07.49.

Suriyathai Pathammavong (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) won the 200-breast, winning the tightest event with a time of 2:28.71, just three hundredths of a second ahead of second place.

Yemec won the 100-free with a winning swim of 58.79.

– Yemec was third in the 200-fly.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University swim and dive team spit double dual with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents at Siena falling to Rider, 162-137, and defeated the Saints, 158-138 Saturday afternoon. 
 
Sophia Velleco led the swimming portion with a win in the 200-butterfly in a time of 2:09.69. The sophomore also finished third in the 100-freestyle in 54.19 and second in the 100-butterfly in 59.05.
 
Senior Melanie Sanchez secured second in the 200-butterfly and the 400-IM in 2:11.12 and 4:42.84, respectively.
 
Daniella Palamaro was right behind Sanchez in the 400-IM placing third with a time of 4:46.95.
 
First year Julia Freshour paced the Pios in the 1000-freestyle finishing third with a time of 11:23.17.
 
Rosemery Nieto finished second in the 100-breaststroke in 1:08.52.
 
In the 200-backstroke, senior Meghan Hammarlund led SHU with a second-place finish and time of 2:11.20.
 
On the diving side, Phifey Boyers and Sinclair Yadao when one-and-two in the 1M with scores of 230.95 and 222.65, respectively.
 
Lola Barrett led SHU in the sweep of the 3M with a score of 259.95. Yadao finished second (243.05) and Boyers took third (235.95).

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Swimming and Diving Teams fell to MAAC foes, Sacred Heart 158-138 and Rider 171-125, in its home-opener at the Siena Swim Center on Saturday.

Sophomore GayLynn Kirn shined in the home-opener as she took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.61 earning her a spot on the Top-10 performer list and just missing the Swim Center record by .77 seconds and the school record by 1.83 seconds. She also finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:14.27.

Shaylea Triller (1:57.79), Natalie Blume (1:58.76), and Mea Amedio (1:59.17) took second through fourth in the 200 free.

Mya Reed took first in the 50 free, just missing a spot on the Top-10 performer list by .40 seconds where she finished with a time of 24.90 while her classmate Kaci Owens (25.24) finished second and senior Kylie Carter (25.30) finished 4th.

Earning a first and second place finish in the 100 free was Triller (1st, 53.38) just missing a Top-10 spot by .25 seconds, and Amedio (2nd, 54.10).

Dame and Ide finished third and fourth in the 100 fly with times of 59.30, .04 from a Top-10 finish and 1:00.03.

Siena’s other top-five finishers included Maddie Buck (4th, 11:27.71 in the 1,000 free; Rentosa (3rd, 1:00.00 in the 100 back), Dame (3rd, 1:08.60 in the 100 breast), Ide (4th, 2:14.04) in the 200 fly; Carter (2nd, 2:28.74 in the 200 breast) missing a first place finish by three one hundredths of a second. Natalie Blume (4th, 5:23.02 in the 500 free), Alice Scalmani (4th, 4:47:52 in the 400 I.M.).

Siena shined in the 200 Medley Relay finishing third, fourth and sixth. Finishing third was the team of Gabrielle RentosaLeslie DameCamryn Raines, and Triller with a time of 1:49.80. Finishing fourth was the team of Kirn, Olivia MartinCarsyn Ide, and Carter with a time of 1:51.53 and finishing sixth was the team of Mary Ellen StratmanEmme Starzman, Scalmani, and Kaci Owens with a time of 1:54:05.

The Saints’ relay teams also clinched top spots in the 200 free with teams including Rentosa, Raines, Carter, Triller (1st, 1:38.43); Blume, Owens, Kirn, and Amedio (2nd, 1:38.71).

Siena returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 when the team hosts Stony Brook at the Siena Swim Center at noon.
