LARAMIE, Wyo. (11/2/24) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team downed Air Force on both the men’s and women’s sides Saturday evening. The Cowboys narrowly edged out the Falcons in an absolute nail-biter, 155-145, while the Cowgirls completely dominated Air Force, 196-102.

This contest was the first home meet for the Cowboys and was also their first conference dual this season. Going into the final two events, the Cowboys and Falcons were tied up at 145 a piece, but Andrew Ravegum powered through the 200-yard IM and Gavin Smith anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team which sealed the victory.

Head coach Dave Denniston said, “Our men’s team really showed a lot of character today. I think every guy that hit the water, whether it was off the board or racing in the pool, put everything they had into it every single time. I think that’s why we won, especially going into those last two events, I told the guys that we needed to win the last two. Drew took business into his own hands in the 200 IM and then that 400 free relay was just exciting. You gotta love having a captain senior like Gavin anchor it for you, because you know he’s going to put more than what he has into it, and he did today.”

This was the second home conference dual for the Cowgirls on the season, and they took care of business once again. The Cowgirls won 14 out of their 16 events and had several second and third place finishes as well.

“What was cool was seeing the number of women that not only won events, but the number of 2’s and 3’s that we got today as well,” Denniston said. “Taylor Craft had a big breakout day. We just continue to see a lot of good things out of our freshman, but Abigail Bruss is someone that is swimming great right now. It’s just fun to see them having fun racing and not having any fear when they get in there.”

Next up, the Cowgirls head across state lines for the Border War against Colorado State on Friday, November 8 at 4 p.m. in Fort Collins, Colorado.
