RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC San Diego women’s swim defeated Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon University while the men defeated Cal Baptist and fell to GCU on Saturday afternoon at Lancer Aquatics Center.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE
Juli Arzave earned the women’s first win of the day in the 1000 yard free with a time of 9:58.49. Sophia Bell followed the fifth year in second with a time of 10:14.57. The gold and blue swept the 200 free with Asia Kozan leading the charge in first with a time of 1:47.73. The freshman was followed by Sophie Francis and Audrey Moore in second and third, respectively.
Taking first, third, and fourth in the 100 back, Eva Boehlke led the event with a time of 55.26. Iris Bayan took third with a time of 56.45 followed by Teagan Monroe in fourth with a time of 56.81. Jana Jocic finished fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.66. Minh-Nha Kawamura posted a 2:04.63 in the 200 fly for a second-place finish. Alisa Rangel followed Kawamura for third with a time of 2:04.63.
Miranda Renner, Josette Odgers, and Mackenzie Lee took second, third, and fourth in the 50 free. Kozan posted a time of 50.58 for a second-place finish in the 100 free and Odgers took fourth, swimming a time of 51.66. Bayan finished first in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.13. Boehlke took another first place finish in 200 breast with a time of 2:18.45.
Taking another first place finish in the 500 free, Arzave posted a time of 4:54.61 with Bell following in second at 4:59.68. Renner tallied a first place finish in the 100 fly at 54.12 with Sanne Dequine taking third with a time of 55.75. Gabi Icheva took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.08 and Sabrina Bennani finished fourth.
Ending the day on a victory, Moore, Odgers, Renner, and Kozan took first over GCU an Cal Baptist with a time of 3:24.44.
ON THE MEN’S SIDE
Opening the meet with a first-place finish, Andrija Petkovic, Luke Pusateri, Chad Morrison, and Zach Elian posted a 1:29.43 in the 200 yard medley relay. Jackson Bernstein finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:25.79 for a season best time. Petkovic and Ryan Kirton took first and third in the 200 free with times of 1:37.57 and 1:39.11 respectively.
Finishing second in the 100 back, Nathan Lee posted a time of 48.52 for a personal best. Pusateri and Colton Milne took third and fourth in the 100 breast finishing within a touch of one another. Posting a time of 1:48.86 in the 200 fly, Yuma Dugas took second for the Tritons. He was followed by Austin Lathrop in third, who posted a time of 1:53.26.
Elian and Lucas Brunett took third and fourth in the 50 free finishing within 0.08 seconds of one another. Petkovic took another first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 44.42. Finishing third, Luigi Franco posted a time of 1:47.43 in the 200 back. Jake Reuter, Milne, and Pusateri took second, third, and fourth in the 200 breast. Reuter posted a time of 2:00.12 for a personal best.
Devin Esser and Bernstein finished second and third in the 500 free with a time of 4:34.72 and 4:37.63, respectively. Adrian Bellido and Elian took third and fourth in the 100 fly. Lee, Reuter, and Shane Burns finished second, third, and fourth in the 200 IM.
UP NEXT
The Triton men will host Cal on Friday, February 2 at Canyonview Aquatics Center with the dual meet set for 1 p.m. The Triton women will head across town on Saturday, February 3 to face University of San Diego 12 p.m.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Grand Canyon swimming and diving team survived unique conditions Saturday to beat WAC competitor California Baptist in men’s and women’s action.
Despite a rainy and cold afternoon in Riverside, the Lopes persevered to get revenge on the men’s side, 156-143, while taking care of business on the women’s side, 170-123, against CBU. In addition, the men defeated UC San Diego 158-133 while the women lost 160-123 to the Tritons.
Sophomore Alex Volkov claimed the first individual victory of the day for GCU when he went 47.25 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke.
From Volkov on, the Lopes won three more events in a row. Senior Raphaela Nakashima (1 minute, 2.87 seconds) and sophomore Jonathan Rom (55.69) each won the 100 breaststroke. Rom later won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 1:59.70, and the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:49.95.
Spaniard Paula Martinez Moreno won the 200 butterfly for the Lopes in 2:00.69. The second-place finisher was more than four seconds behind Moreno.
Volkov continued his winning ways with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke at 47.36 seconds.
GCU junior Fruzsi Macsok won the individual medley with a time of 2:05.81 seconds.
To close the day on the swimming side, the Lopes’ 400 freestyle relay took first. The team of sophomore Yigit Eksioglu, freshman Guillermo Carrey Bosque, Volkov and sophomore Eli Cohen clocked in at 2:59.97.
In diving, GCU senior Reece Robles placed third in the 3-meter competition with 298.28 points.
Next, the Lopes will host UNLV at home for Senior Day on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m.

IVERSIDE – California Baptist University men’s and women’s swim & dive teams wrapped up their 2023-24 home slate on Saturday by hosting a tri-dual with Grand Canyon and UC San Diego. The rainy day started by honoring the Lancer senior class with a pre-meet ceremony full of smiles, stories, laughs, and lots of hugs.
Once the action was all said and done, the visitors left happy as UCSD and GCU took combined victories over CBU, 341.5-241.5 and 326-266, respectively. The Lancer men were closest to stealing a victory over their Lope counterparts, just getting edged 156-143.
CBU’s cream rose to the top as six Lancers secured all 11 top finishes, including five who won a pair of events. On the men’s side, Mark Kovacsics swept his regular events of the 1,000 and 500 freestyle, while Andrew Teh took first in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, and Tyler Mansheim touched first in the 50 free. Last year’s NCAA qualifier, Gael Jimenez, made his 2023-24 home debut on Saturday, immediately sweeping the springboard action and appearing in midseason form.
One of the women’s newest arrivals, Sofia Maksimova, who arrived in early January, claimed wins in the 50 and 100 free races. Even more, she reset the 50 free program record, shaving nearly a full second from her time from seven days ago at UC Santa Barbara. Maksimova wasn’t the only Lancer woman to claim two wins as Natalia Bedolla is beginning to peak on the boards, taking the 1-and-3-meter events on Saturday.
The final regular season event will only benefit the divers as they head to the annual Air Force Academy Dive Invite event from February 1-3. After that, the Lancers will have three weeks to prepare for the WAC Championships from February 28 through March 2 in Edinburg, Texas.
